Okay - now I am worried
I am almost a year out from diagnosis. Today after a shower I was standing in front of the mirror and raised both of my arms up over my head. On my lumpectomy side there is an indentation kind of perpendicular to my incision scar but a little below the scar. It's a couple of inches long. I am three months out from rads and I never noticed this before. I will admit though I haven't lifted my arms over my head in awhile. You can't see it if my arms are down or even if they are slightly raised. Is this not normal? I see my MO on Friday and I do have a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound on Wednesday so it will be checked out, but of course I have to wait three days ugh

just posting again so you can see my history

Hi Nancy
I had the same - I don't remember how long after treatment but a while - all of a sudden I had a groove/indentation perpendicular to my scar. It lasted a few weeks and then disappeared.
Its good you will be seeing your MO - you can have it properly checked out.
-
thanks I hope mine disappears too. So hate this disease

I just developed that indentation perpendicular to my scar a week ago. Am glad to hear it goes away!!! :-)

Nancy2581 - I personally wouldn't worry too much about the indentation. It's good you are having it checked out for your peace of mind, but it is probably just due to the effects of the lumpectomy and radiation on your breast tissue. The lumpectomy creates a kind of sink-hole in the breast and the radiation seems to change the consistency of the tissue somehow. I have acquired a number of new indentations since having my lumpectomy and radiation over 4 years ago. The doctor followed them with some extra mammograms with large views, but found nothing to worry about.

I believe you are correct, littlemelons. I figured my indentation only showed up because I've been exercising excessively and lost weight...therefore allowing the indent to appear from where the BS removed the lump whereas before it was filled in or stretched over or whatever.

I guess it took me by surprise. Good to know others have had it and it goes away. Even if it doesn't go away I don't care as long as it's not nasty C. Thanks
Nancy

My breast has changed its overall shape somewhat over the last few years since having the lumpectomy and radiation and definitely doesn't match the other one now, but I don't care either as long as there is no C.

Hi Nancy 2581 - How are you doing? Have you gotten the results of your mammo and US yet? I think it is likely nothing to worry about and hope I am right. Let us know when you have a chance.
-
I did have them - thank you for asking. All clear. I showed the indentation to my MO. She doesn't think it's anything to worry about and is most likely from the surgery. It could have been there all along and I just noticed. You can only see it when I really stretch my arm over my head.

Oh that's great news! Hope you are celebrating.
