awaiting biopsy
I go in Wednesday morning for my u/s guided biopsy. All I know right now is that the mass is "taller than wide" and Birads 4. Are there many cysts or other b9 masses that can be taller than wide? I was told it was triangular in shape.
Thanks for your time,

Hi-
I just had my US guided biopsy Friday. I asked the radiologist during the US to tell me everything that favored a benign diagnosis and the characteristics that were troubling. I felt that - that way I would either feel more hopeful or start being able to prepare myself. On the whole, the characteristics he named were better than the down side ones. So, I left feeling hopeful. I hope all goes well.
-
80% or more of Birads 4 biopsies are benign
-
Keep us updated on your results, Plumster. It sounds very positive.
I have my ultrasound-guided biopsy tomorrow, so can relate somewhat.
-
Hi Koo-
Hope your biopsy goes well tomorrow. I get my results tuesday at 10. But, the waiting is so hard!
-
Yes, the waiting is the worst!!! Please keep us posted, Plumster. I keep asking this question of everyone because I am so scared of the biopsy tomorrow. Is it painful?
-
3BoysMommee, keep up updated on how things go with you. Your biopsy is the day after mine. Will be thinking of you.
-
yes, the waiting is insane ... Fear of the unknown does crazy things to your mind!
I haven't had a biopsy before, but I have had an amnio, it wasn't comfortable, but I wasn't in terrible pain...there is a bit of burning when the needle goes in from the stuff they put on your skin.
-
Ty and keep busy, I know how hard it is to wait. But You
all are very special and I was the same way and I cleaned
the house the cleanest it has every been. Praying for all
of you.

Thank you, Footprints!

I hope I'm in the right place for this. I can't sleep since I had a mammogram then ultrasound for a suspicious mass on May 15.
The doctor looked at me as if she knew and said the characteristics of the mass are of cancer or a fat atrophy, mentioned biopsy, surgery then left for next patient about 7 mins spent with me. I transferred everything to the Lahey Clinic and got to see a nurse who looking at the films said it wasn't screaming cancer, could be anything. She said they could get me in for a biopsy in 3 weeks. I said I had a trip planned to Canada the next day(I ride/train horses and thought it might be the last chance to do for a while) and would it be possible to postpone for an additional 3 weeks. They said yes. It's nodular only 11 mm, not palpable even if cancer can be removed.
Well that all changed when I read my radiologists rating of a Bi-rad 4B. When I called to ask the nurse said oh yes the size of the nodule doesn't matter it still could have metastasized to the lymph nodes. Honestly, you're telling me this now? And you couldn't get me in for a biopsy in the next few days?
My primary care won't even respond to me. I have the feeling that he thinks its something bad.
Well forget that , I've contacted Brigham & Women's , best breast care hospital in the world and once I get the biopsy results thats where I'm going.
But I'm scared to death. I'm 55, athletic, don't smoke, moderate drinker. Doesn't seem to matter. My mother is 92, my sister 70 my aunt 105, my father died at 92. Well for me its a 50/50 chance that I have cancer at Bi-Rads 4b.
I can't mentally face it.
Radiologist report: Tomography noted is persistent area as well. ultrasound over this area demonstrates a hypo echoic area with poorly defined borders consistent with a mass. It measures 11 X 11 mm .
A new area of focal density has developed in the mid superior right breast . This was seen on multiple views as well as ultrasound. because of has a masslike appearance i would recommend biopsy to exclude malignancy.

Best of luck, Koo and 3boysmomEE with your upcoming biopsies.
We're thinking of you both.

Dear Allison,
Yes you came to the right place although we are sorry that your situation brought you here. As you can read here, the waiting for definitive biopsy results can be so so stressful. It is so hard to cope with what we don't know. While you are waiting for others to chime in you may want to read this information on the BI-Rads System that may offer a little more information. While we can't take the anxiety completely away we hope that you will find support here as you await your appointment at Brigham and Women's. Keep us posted and let us know how things go for you. The Mods

Koo, Hope it went well. I did not find my biopsy painful so I hope your is too.
-
still going stir crazy...wish there were more stories re: taller than wide masses that were benign, would ease my mind some.
-
Have you searched that term here? There have been lots of them
-
yes, I have
-
I just had a birad 5 in April which breast surgeon was prepping me for bad news that came back benign complex fibroadenoma. It surprised her so much that she contacted pathologist. It looked like a rectangle sitting on the short end much taller than wide, lobulated, and hypoechoic. Hope you are as blessed! The waiting is the hardest thing and I hope my outcome eases your mind at least a little.
-
When I search & then look at that woman's last post most of them were benign
-
I had my biopsies done today. Unexpectedly, they biopsied the left breast as well as the right breast. Because the lump in the left breast was close to the outer surface, they did it without local anaesthetic. I didn't feel a thing. They then used local anaesthetic on the right breast followed by a needle biopsy. I felt a very slight sting from the local anaesthetic, but seriously a mosquito bite would be more painful. I only felt pressure when they did the biopsy. I so wish I hadn't been so nervous. It was truly nothing!
Now waiting for the results, but they didn't seem overly concerned. Hope everyone else here gets good results (who is still waiting). I will keep checking.
-
PS: Thank you, Plumster, Mods and ThreeBoyz, for your wishes.
-
Praying for good news, If You need a friend to take to
or just visit let me know, Positive thinking has got me through 4 cancer.
I pray Your will be benign.
-
Thank you, Footprints!
-
All the best for tomorrow, 3BoyzMommee!!! You will be absolutely fine -- it truly was a very easy experience for me today!
-
thanks for coming back and updating, I'm so glad it went so smoothly
-
The ultrasound machine today showed a different image, it was not fluid filled, but still taller than wide, so they did the vacuum assisted biopsy...will find out more tomorrow afternoon
-
Keep us posted, 3boysmomee, keeping fingers crossed that you get good news. I received a letter from the clinic today saying I have to come in for a follow-up appointment on 22 June. It's ages away! So much waiting ...
-
Plumster, how are things going with you?
-
they are making you wait that long for results?? That seems ridiculous, I'm so sorry
-
after being told I had an 80% chance of malignancy, pathology came back b9, so thankful. Thank you to those that reached out to me!
