Breast Metastatic Cancer

I was diagnosed one year ago today with DCIS. I had a bilateral mastectomy and received 12 weeks of chemo. I asked for a PET scan never to get one because my oncologist said "the tumor is gone, there is nothing to scan" Well last week after having back pain since the end of January after xrays, cat scans, ultrasounds, bone scans and finally and MRI it was determined that my breast cancer has spread to my spine in my T11, S1 and L1.  and tiny nodules on my lungs. My oncologist sent me to a radiation oncologist for my spine but basically told me there is nothing more to do for my lungs except up my anti estrogen pill. I of course am not happy with that answer. Does anyone have any guidance? I live in South Florida and have heard a lot about Moffitt Center in Tampa.  Can anyone help? I have 3 children and a husband and I am 10 times more afraid this time around than before. Please help!

I’m very sorry to hear your diagnosis. There is a Stage IV forum here where there are plenty of women who have been in your shoes and can offer guidance. I would think there ought to be treatments that could be offered and I am sure our Stage IV sisters will be able to help you.

For anyone else who happens to be reading this, the original poster evidently did not have a diagnosis of pure DCIS as chemo is NEVER offered for DCIS. Most likely she had DCIS along with IDC. Many people get confused by which is which, but I don’t want any of our new members who may have been diagnosed only with DCIS to worry about developing metastatic cancer - that can only happen when invasive cancer is present.
