An inportant question to ask

My partner asked the most amazing question at my first consult, one that I and I'm sure many other patients don't think to ask:

How long until treatment has to start?

He meant, how far out could we push the start of treatment. I was stage 3 with HER2+ disease and my MO said -- you can wait weeks but not months. And so I did.

I scheduled a consult at another clinic for a second opinion, did tons of research, continued working with a Chinese Medicine doctor who specializes in cancer, found a naturopathic oncologist who did critically important blood labs before treatment started and packed as much nutrient dense food into my body as possible. I was depleted and I knew that if I didn't work hard to protect my body from treatment that chemo would destroy me. With help from my naturopath I had a clear path for nutrition during chemo and with help from my Chinese medicine doc immune function stayed up with herbs instead of neulasta.

So, while a nuclear bomb just went off in your head, give yourself time to gain some perspective, assemble a broader team, gain some headway before starting treatment. It was the most genius thing ever.

With love,

Ann
