Beehive shaped coil for lumpectomy?

Had a biopsy yesterday, got a new diagnosis of ILC today, met with surgeon this afternoon. She showed me an object she "might" insert in my breast after the lumpectomy in two weeks. It was a metal coil, covered with clear plastic, shaped like a beehive. Of course, after the meeting, I'm thinking HECK NO!

So what is it? What is it for? I need to have a name so I can call her office and leave a message that I don't want it!

I think you should ask your doctor aboutanything you don't understand and don't make judgements until you understand why & what she is talking about.

Not really helpful. Just trying to find out what the thing is called so I can do a little research.

Kayb, thank you. Yes, my doctor is Linda Smith. So it's for radiation treatment? I will be opting out of RT, so will look into this some more. Do they just leave it in you?

Also, if it's new, I doubt my insurance will pay for it. If they do, I have to pay 30%. I bet that little thing costs a lot of money.
