Sciatic nerve pain?

I think lol. I have this pain that shoots down my butt through my right leg. I think the pain is in the back of the leg and sometimes when it flairs my foot feels tingly. I do not feel it at all when walking and usually sitting. Standing is the problem. So this started last November when I was doing weekly taxol. It was worse then. Six weeks after taxol it seemed to be better than it was though not gone. I have now been on tamoxifen for four months. The pain is worse again though still not as bad as while on taxol. So two questions:

Could taxol have caused this?

Can tamoxifen be aggravating it?

I have brought this up to my MO, but she said she's never heard taxol causing this. Humph. I see her on June 12 th. Maybe it's time for some tests

Thanks for any input

Nancy

Nancy, I had sciatica nerve pain today. It felt really horrible like I was being split in two. It started to calm down. I think it is a side effect of taking exemestane . It seems to be better now. It is best to check it out with your doctor. I hope you feel better soon.

My bout with numbness due to sciatica occurred prior to BC and turned out to be from a herniated disc impinging on the nerve. A series of spinal steroid injections took care of it. I had injured my back by twisting while lifting a snow shovel so am now more careful about body mechanics and core strength exercises.

yes I did have a back problem prior to BC. The dr. thought I had herniated a disc. We never did an MRI because he put me on prednisone which made it go away. I could swear this pain now is in the other leg. It's not constant just annoying

Good thing you have a doctor appointment coming up soon because it is annoying to be impacted by that kind of discomfort. Plus, you don't want it to get worse due to lack of attention.

Since chemotherapy is known to result in neuropathies, I think taxol certainly could be a contributing factor. The aromatase inhibitors are so good at reducing estrogen (to me, a "feel good" hormone!), I would not be surprised at associated issues like pain and stiffness. However Nancy, our original poster, is on tamoxifen so those side effects become less likely although still a possibility. Hoping some answers and relief are in the near future...
