MATCHA GREEN TEA supposed to be the BEST cancer fighter ?
I found this tea on the internet and it sounds great ! It is supposed to help fight cancer ( because its EGCG ), help improve memory and fight alzheimers, helps with weight loss, boosts energy and so many other health benefits. So, I went to Star Bucks this morning and bought a small just to try it out before I go to the health food store to buy a large amount of it. It actually tastes good ! Star bucks calls it matcha water. Anyone else read, tried or heard of this ?? If so what was your experience with it ?

I love my matcha green tea. Just don't buy Matcha Lattes at Starbucks unless you want a lot of added sugar. It has a slight amount of caffeine which might account for the energy boost. I believe using the powdered form helps with more nutrients within the tea leaves. Hope you continue to enjoy!
-
I still think Matcha tea tastes and smells like grass clippings, but with enough stevia and almond milk I drink a cup a day. Everything I've read says it's a potent cancer fighter and so worth it. I have no idea what Starbucks is putting in theirs, but I buy organic Matcha tea powder on Amazon. I rather doubt the Starbucks version is the same or has the same benefits. Make your own with a teaspoon of Matcha powder to 3/4 cup of water so you know you are getting a real dose of Matcha. And some people do actually like it. I just drink it because I believe it is good for me.

My DH drinks Matcha tea daily. He buys it in culinary grade powder form. You can also cook with it too. He buys it at the local Asian market.

I've been a fan of Matcha for a couple of years. I buy it in bulk on eBay and prepare it with almond milk, honey from Germany, and a splash of organic half & half. I'm quite addicted my 2 cups per day, but use more like 1/3 tsp per cup of water.

Thanks for that article leggo. My DH has been pushing for me to try the Matcha. I have RA and I'm EXTREMELY cautious about adding anything that messes with my immune system to my diet. I will pass that along to him.
-
An interesting topic...never heard of the tea, and then after reading this earlier, later this afternoon, my son's roommate mentioned how good it is. So I may have to try it. Can you recommend the brand you, use, where you purchase it? I am inclined to buy some from Amazon, but would like to know hat to look for.
-
Leggo, thanks.

MrsM, My DH drinks Maeda-en / Matcha green tea powder - culinary quality. He gets it at the local Asian market, but I think next time we will look for it on Amazon. He paid about $7.00 for an ounce. The can said it's imported from Japan.
-
I first found this source through an eBay listing, but they have a direct website as well: www.MatchaNatural.com. The $12.95 size lasts me maybe 2.5 or 3 mos.
And here's how to prepare it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Qg0Yuj6INQ

I actually went to Star Bucks and bought a small just to make sure I could drink..I loved it ! I went to my local health food store and purchased it for $13.89. I don't know if I "feel" any different yet but the fact that its a powerful cancer fighter will help me to continue drinking it ! Thanks for all the input ladies

I bought CCnature Organic Matcha green tea powder on Amazon. I think I paid $ 22 for 16 oz. It is imported form Japan. I bought a different brand the first time and liked it even less. Guess I'm just never going to be a Matcha tea lover-I like regular green tea fine, but given the health benefits of Matcha I keep drinking it. Sort of like exercise, I doubt I'll ever love it, but given the benefits I keep right on doing it.

Thanks for this thread and these posts all. I just ordered 1oz of the Maeda-en / Matcha green tea powder from Amazon to try. It was about $8 - a little cheaper if you go on the auto delivery. Have let things go recently while I was on Effexor, it did not agree with me and I became one with my bed, but restarted on my Garden of Life Perfect Food yesterday. Its loaded with goodies so hop ethis and the tea helps. The tea can't possibly taste worse than the Perfect Food (people swear by it even though most most hate the taste). I add almond milk and strawberries, blend it and drink it through a straw and its OKish..
Ganzgirl, if the matcha green tea has just half of its apparent benefits I will be a happy bunny. My memory sure needs a boost! Hope you are doing well!

I've always liked matcha, though am not a regular drinker. I live near Japan Town in San Jose where there is a Japanese supermarket , as well as several other Japanese markets in the Silicon Valley area, so I have many brands to choose from. I confess to putting a bit of honey in it

Green tea, or Chinese tea such Pu-er tea, Chinese Green Tea (different flavor from Matcha), Tie-Guan Yin tea, Oolong and other teas (flower tea) are only effective when one drinks them diligently, on a daily basis, after meals. They are known to cleanse or detoxify the body , especially oil from consuming fried food, of cholesterol and such...There are teas for after a savory or heavy flavored meals, and then there are teas to counter the sweets in desserts. So if you are drinking Matcha just to add flavor to your occasional smoothies, yogurts, fruits, cakes etc, it wouldn't work unless you drink just the pure matcha in the form that is recommended, just an fyi. The same goes for the above. You can find out where Starbucks got their green tea powder. I got these from a southern Chinese wholesaler and they taste just as good.

lzzysmom..I am Still drinking...I don't find it that bad actually replaced my morning coffee with it ! My memory and weight gain are my main reason for drinking it and of course because of its cancer fighting benefits. I am doing well, getting ready for another surgery..FAT GRAFTING
on JUne 17th...Im excited for this because HOPEFULLY my foobs wont look alien anymore lol. It was so nice to meet you at the doc's office
How have you been ?

Has anyone heard of IP6 ?? My aunt is a 5 year survivor and swears by it ...any thoughts info, benifits bad se's ????

Maeda-en brand makes three different qualities (that I know of). Culinary quality is mostly for cooking but can used for drinking, universal is better for drinking but can still be used for cooking, ceremonial is their highest quality and meant for drinking (same size tin costs about 2x as much as culinary). Overall, this brand is cheap, relative to the really high end stuff. It is not organic, as far as I know. When I drink matcha, I use the universal quality. I suppose I should treat myself to the ceremonial.
-
exbrnfoodx...ive never heard of this brand is it sold online ? I bought some from my health food store recently, not sure of the brand, but it is good !! But I definetly cant afford to keep buying it. The bag is so small and I paid almost $20 for it
I cant wrapped my head around why it is more expensive to eat and BE healthy than it is to eat shit and get fat ie...McDonalds etc...
-
I have been drinking Brassica Tea, formulated by Johns Hopkins - https://www.baltcoffee.com/catalog/brassica-tea
I drink it iced with lemon. It's very good!! And I hope it counts toward my water requirement for the day.
-
My Maeda-en brand arrived from Amazon. I use stevia and a little almond milk, quite soothing, and I need something to get me out of my post Effexor brain funk. LOL
If I run the Courig machine with no K-cup the water comes out at just the right temperature so it could not be more simple . Think mine is the culinary grade but I will either go on their auto-delivery or try and find a bigger package as the one oz.is not going to last long.

ganzagirl and anyone else interested in matcha,
What I know is based upon taste, more than health benefits. I first went to Japan in 1979 and got hooked after a tea ceremony. I flew there regularly for several years. Matcha, good matcha, is sold in small quantities because it looses taste/potentcy rather quickly. 1oz. is a typical quantity. If you're going to be mixing it with other things, culinary quality is fine. I drink mine Japanese style so prefer universal quality or ceremonial, when I can afford it. $20.00 an ounce is nothing! Fine matcha can go for upwards of $50.00 an ounce. Again, this matcha is traditional ceremonial tea. I have no idea what quality/grade is used for health benefits. I will say that the more expensive stuff tastes much better IMO.
As for Maeda-en brand, it is available on Amazon.com. The ceremonial grade is close to 20.00, and the two lower grades less than 10.00. It is not organic as far as I know. I have access to several Japanese markets in my area, so, I've tried different brands. BTW, the best way to get the matcha to "dissolve " and not clump is by using a chasen, or traditional bamboo whisk.
Again, I have been a long time consumer of matcha because of my trips to Japan but am not too knowledgeable about the cancer fighting aspects of it.

I just purchased Matcha tea from the health food store after reading about it somewhere on these forums. Silly me cannot remember who posted about it and now i cannot thank them.
Thank you whomever recommendedthe tea where ever you are!!!!
Hoping it helps with my memory...

Hi. I am new to this site and have no clue if I will be able communicate with you again! I am not too good at this lol. I am going to try this tea soon. I have not started my treatment yet still have some testing to do. I am ER Pr HER2 positive. Waiting to do PET scan and other tests. My cancer was stage Invasive Ductal taken out with clear margins and no node involvement. I am a nervous wreck about starting treatment! Try not read too much but then want to know what others are dealing with! My name on this site is gretagirl. She is my German Shepard and my buddy! If you can reach me again I would love to talk to you!!
-
Gretagirl, If you want to come back to a thread you can add it to your favorites. Look just above where you're typing and click on "add to favorite topics." Then it will show up in your list on the left side that says "My Favorite Topics."
I hope that helps!
-
I did it. Thanks SlowDeepBreaths! Place this thread and triple positive on my favorites and now I can find them! I have echo test consult for port and chemo class tomorrow. Then PET scan Thursday. Right now I have a horrible bladder infection though! Just starters last night. Hopefully clear up soon.
-
I take IP6, ganzgirl. Here is an article, not sure how true all the claims are - but it does seem to be pretty safe to take.

-
Gretagirl, looks like you got it figured out. I hope you're bladder infection clears up soon. Good luck with your consult.
-
Consult is where I freaked out and just cried and cried! Just hearing the side effects of these meds hit me hard. I have this horrible vision of just being non functional! All the patient navigator would say is do not worry and for me to know that for every side effect there is a medicine to combat. Was not real reassured! Probably start treatment after the13th. Port next week then meet with MO for test results then treatment starts
-
Gretagirl, please keep in mind that not everyone gets all of those side effects. We are all so different. Sending you gentle hugs.
I'll be honest, I had myself all worked up about chemo. It was nothing like I had built it up to be in my head. My biggest side effect was constipation. I'm not saying it's a walk in the park, but it was doable. You can do this!!
