So scared
I am 31 years old and have been having pain in my left breast for about a month. I went in for a mammogram and ultrasound on Monday. They found a mass and a swollen lymph node they wanted to biospy ( Birad 4a ) I went in later that day for the biospsy. The mass ended up just being a fluid filled cyst- which was great!! Then they took what felt like 100 biopsys of my lymph node, core and needle. I am still waiting for the results and I feel like I am going crazy. I can't stop worrying and crying. I have an almost 2 year old and can't keep but thinking- what if..

First, a 4a has a very low level of suspician. They only have about a 13% chance of being cancer. You already know the one thing was a cyst, which is no big deal, pretty much a given that it is benign & explains your pain. Lymph nodes swell for lots of reasons besides cancer, most notably inflammation & infection.Even from irritation from the cyst. I had a swollen lymph node they biopsied when I was having another biopsy. She told me she'd be surprised if it amounted to anything, and it didn't. It was benign. Please don't make yourself sick over this. The odds are overwhelmingly positive that you are fine

Hi Ssill-
We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're sorry for the worry that brings you here, but we hope you find the support you need!
Like MelissaDallas said, the odds are very, very good that you're fine! The cyst might have been a small infection, which could explain the swollen nodes, but also keep in mind, your lymphatic system is fairly sensitive, and they can swell for any number of reasons. We're guessing the doctor took several samples just to err on the side of caution, and not because he was concerned about malignancy.
Try to focus on the positive for now, until your results come in, which will more than likely be benign, and then you can really relax! Please keep us posted!

Thank you for your support. This waiting is just so horrible. My biopsy was taken Monday afternoon. The radiologist said I should have the results in 2-3 days, Today is day 4. I have been in contact with my GP and he said that they have not reviewed my case yet. I keep thinking- is that because they found something, had to run more tests and that was the delay in getting the report to the Pathologist to review.... The fact that it is a Lymph Node in question is FREAKING me out.

Ssil, waiting is anxiety filled, that's for sure. If, you do not hear from them today, keep busy over the weekend & do fun activities with your baby. The odds are so much in your favor.
I got my results in 24 hours, biopsy of tumor & the stinkin bad node too! When things look good, they move slower in the labs & reports. I just made that up, lol, but it does make sense

thanks for your encouragement. I really hope that results come back today- but as it gets later and later in the day I am losing hope. Is it normal for results to take longer then what the radiologist estimated?
-
so... Didn't hear Friday. They said they are backed up in pathology and my case has not been reviewed yet. What does that mean? That they have not tested anything yet or something different? I am freaking out here.

Ssill - I know it's hard to wait. I'm sorry that they are later than their estimate. But I would take them at their word, that they have more cases to go through - many others who are waiting just like you are. I have found that a week after the biopsy (or 7-10 days) is not out of the range of possibility. Not helpful to your anxiety, but I wouldn't read more into it.
The "What If's" can get you down. Try as hard as you can to do something with your almost 2-year-old this weekend to pass the time. Breathe deep. Worrying won't make the results come faster. I've been right where you are - BI-RADS 4, biopsy, etc.... You'll know when they finish testing your samples. In the meantime, send good thoughts to those who are waiting just like you at the same pathology lab, and try as much as you can to relax. Feel free to keep venting here - know you aren't alone!!

That the pathology lab is busy. Nothing else
