so frustrated that I am doing this again. I can't figure out the stats. I was dx at age 42 with stage one invasive ducal estrogen+ on left had lumpectomy and rad and some chemo. Now at age 46 I was dx with DCIS hers2+

Lots of family history but full gene testing so far negative but I really think there is something genetic. I also had childhood leukemia AML.

Need to decide WTF to do. I have to decide between another lump and rad or double mastectomy. I am definitely going to radically change diet but I don't plan on rely on alternative tx to get rid of this tumor but maybe it will help reduce chance of metastatic breast cancer or another new breast cancer.

Any thought on what I should do. I really see myself as high risk for new breast cancer and I am really considering double mastectomy. But my left breast has been radiated about 4.5 years ago. Skin looks and feels great but I hear that doesn't really matter

My left breast was radiated back in 2004. I developed a new primary in my right breast and decided to have bilateral mastectomies. My left breast, even though radiated looks great. Never had an infection or anything bad happen. IMHO...you should be ok because you are so far out. PM if you have any questions.

thx. I am scheduling my bilateral mast for some time early next month. I went over all the research and it looks like with a radiated breast you have about 1 percent a year risk for a new breast cancer up to 20/30% but with double mast the risk is 2-5 percent over life time. I think overall recurrence is the same and overall life expectancy is the same. So really I am only lowering my chance to new tumor but I really really really don't want to deal with another dx avian and my best chance is to get the surger

Hope the surgery goes well. It is frustrating to deal with this more than once. Best wishes.

I can understand how you feel. I was originally dx with TN IBC in Nov 2013. I had chemo, surgery (left UMX) and radiation. However in Nov 2014 I found a pea sized lump in my right breast. I had a biopsy then which came back benign. In my Feb 2015 followup with my surgeon he decided to do another biopsy and this came back with ER+ DICS. I feel this was a separate occurrence and I caught it early but a coincidence and my thoughts are I had felt a benign cyst and the DCIS was lurking alongside it and found in the second biopsy. It was a shock - though not as scary for me as my last dx and so this helped me to cope. I brought forward my reconstruction (which I had planned for the end of 2015) and had my op on April 6th. I had a right MX and double Deip reconstruction. My surgeon would have wanted to wait longer from my radiation (which finished July 2014) but only until after a year had passed. at 4.5 years - you will have much better skin to cope with reconstruction.

It's horrible being dragged back to the beginning again but I now feel I'm getting back to normal. Its a hard decision to take - but I am glad now I have had both mx's and reconstruction. We are all different - I was always going to have reconstruction - and would have probably had the second MX at that time. I now feel I am back on that waiting and each day/week/month I am nearer to feeling safer.

I will be thinking of you and wish you quick and comfortable recovery from your surgery.

    Sarah
