I had a unilateral mastectomy 2001 with tram flap at 48. Five years hormone therapy for grade 1 stage 1. May 2014 I was diagnosed grade 3 stage 2. Er and Pr. Positive 100% of cells . Her neg . Mri showed 2 tumors largest 2.1 cm. My brac testing is neg but UAB said to old since it was done 2005. My grandmother, mother and aunt died of breast and ovarian. Since this is my second time around I would like to get a second opinion. Do you think this is unreasonable. I did ask for a bx in 2001 and was refused by the dr and insurance

Hi Mgrisham, We are very sorry that you are having to go through this again! We feel that if a second opinion makes you more comfortable, then it is a good idea. Most doctors are really fine with this.

    We are thinking of you!

Mgrisham, Sorry that you have to go through this again!

Going for a second opinion even if it means driving a little extra, going out of the comfort zone, having some eyes rolling- I think its still worth it!

Considering that your grandmother, mother and aunt died of breast/ ovarian cancer- maybe your current doctor should have opted for BX even though you were BRCA -ve.

    Good luck.

A second opinion at an academic medical center is always wise. Glad you are doing that. Sad you have to face this again.
