The Positivity Police

Options

Here is a great blog that debunks the myth that we got cancer because we are not positive enough, or did not fight hard enough. It's hard enough dealing with this crapola, without having people make you feel bad for feeling bad, or for not doing your "best" to beat it. Enough with the victim blaming and "positivity" bullying!!!!

Debic- this has also been a pet peeve of mine. Thanks for sharing it. Feel better already! I don't need the extra pressure. I didn't get a personality transplant when they amputated my breasts. Maybe they should offer that as a twofer

Thanks, Debic. I am, by nature, very positive and bc hasn't changed that (much), however, I have never believed it would somehow make my bc "better" or a negative attitude would make it worse.People often say that I will beat cancer because of my positive attitude. When I tell them that a positive attitude won't cure cancer, many act like I've uttered the ultimate heresy. They really want to believe that we have some control over this thing.

The "positivity" thing doesn't bother me as much at the whole "fighting spirit" thing (also mentioned in this article), as in "you've got to be strong and fight this." Oh, bite me! My body is not a blanking battleground and I'm not going to turn it into one. Battlegrounds don't fair too well from what I know of military history. I'm not fighting cancer, I sought treatment for it and now I'm dealing with it the best I can-sometimes with a positive attitude, some days not so much.

Frankly, I am a pessimist by nature. A pessimist never expects good things to happen and if they do a pessimist is very happy! Pessimists are never disappointed...Optimist, positive, bah humbug! I do not fight, I just do what I gotta do..
