Esophagus
Last year I was treated for triple negative breast cancer. I did it all. Chemo, double mast, radiation, and hysterectomy(I'm BRCA1+). I am scheduled to have recon done in late July and as per my plastics request I did a CT scan 2 days ago. Yesterday my onco called me and said I have a 1.5 cm lymph node in my chest and a area in my Esophagus! I have to go back on Monday and do a PET scan. If this is cancer again am I stage 4? I never would have thought this would come back so soon. I ended chemo 8/29/14 and radiation on 12/05/14. I am scared!! I am not wanting to go through this again.

Hi Coopdizzie, I am so sorry you have to go through this, but its good your doctors are being diligent with testing. I don't have experience with this but wanted to stop by and give support to you. I know others familiar with this will be by soon to give their input and guidance. Keep us posted and praying you are okay. -
Thanks! That would be nice. I should know more on Tuesday
-
Now it's 2 lymph nodes. It wasn't my esophagus it was my diaphragm and that glowed as well. Going in soon for biopies.
-
So sorry you have this new worry just before reconstruction. Diaphragm must be an unusual place for metastasis. Have your doctors seen this before? I am BRCA1 too and Carboplatin and adriamycin are supposed to be the best for BRCA1. I hope there is another reason why those areas lit up.
-
I agree about diaphragm being very unusual- pathology from hysterectomy was clear? Is it possible there is artifact from hyster? Hoping for the best for you

Biopsy was done yesterday. Chest biopsy of the chest is painful. He got 90% of the larger lymph node. They said if it's negative then they will go in and biopsy a lesion from my diaphragm but they don't want to put me in worst pain than they have to.
My onco came to talk to me and said if it's positive he will be sending the sample to a specialty group to see what chemo's will work. He said he didn't want to waste my time. Made me sad. All 3 docs yesterday are leaning to this being cancer. They said if it was just in my lymph nodes they wouldn't be so worried but it's on my diaphragm also. My cancer growth rate is 97% so if this is a recurrence it is new. My original tumor was 4x6 and 3 lymph nodes and thought it was only there for a few weeks. If it is I hope that my onco learns that triple negative and BRCA1+ may not always show a problem in blood work alone. That regular scans are important. Thank GOD my plastics want to do the CT scan. Who knows how bad this had to get before we found out.
-
Did you see the study that concluded that even BRCA1 triple negative will benefit from oophorectomy as far as breast cancer related survival? Maybe that could be your next step. And if it is cancer PARP inhibitors seem to be promising for BRCA1. But if they can figure out treatment specifically tailored to you would be even better. I guess you truly can thank the PS for ordering the CT scan. I am a year out from end of radiation and have had no scans nor bloodwork. Sending you prayers.
-
So true. I did write my PS and told him once we know for sure I will call and cancel my recon. He already told me before he won't do it if it comes back. So nervous but I know things will work out as they should.
-
Well, it came back positive. I am now stage 4. Heartbroken doesn't descibe it.
-
coopdizzle - I am sorry you are facing this. I will say a prayer for you hoping that treatment will be kind on you and tough on your cancer.
-
I'm sorry this is happening to you. You are far too young. Take care of yourself. xo
-
I will. Gonna give myself a few days to be wreck then putting on my big girl pants. Cancer SUCKS!
-
So sorry the biopsy was positive. I hope you can get the treatment that targets your cancer. Hugs.
-
Thanks. I wish I could start today.
-
I ask so mad to read it came back positive...in fact I'm pissed. We have so many similarities in dx. Did you have initial scans? Was it just positive nodes or is the diaphragm positive too?
I'm so sorry. Yes be a wreck then move into fighting. I'm happy to see that they want to do a panel to see which chemo will work best.
Xo

I'm so sorry. I know we've never spoken, but I wanted to extend my support, condolences, and best wishes. 5/11 is a significant day for me for several reasons (mostly negative), and then it became the day I was diagnosed in 2011 with Triple Negative when I was 34. I later found out that I'm BRCA1 positive. Now, I see that 5/11 will also be a date you'll never forget. And I hate that this beast has invaded your life and caused you and your loved ones immeasurable grief. There are no words. You are in my thoughts
-
Crap! I know we don't know each other, but I was so hoping it would turn out benign. One foot in front of the other. Big, big hug.
-
They just biopsied the lymph node. They said if it came back positive they would just assume that that's what is on my diaphragm. I am beyond shocked. The only good thing is that my family is putting together a trip to Disney World and Hawaii(second Honeymoon). The love I've felt has been overwhelming but in a good way. The bumps on this pic are on my diaphragm. Just crazy.
-
Thinking of you. ((((HUGS)))) I hate cancer.
-
I hate cancer too! Just went in and got ANOTHER port! Blah
-
Oh honey, I am so very sorry about this. cAncer is so unfair and so rotten. You are much too young to be facing this. Hopefully you will kick butt. Hugs and wishing you NED for many years to come.
