Is IDC w/mucinous qualities same as mucinous carcinoma?

My mother was diagnosed with IDC with mucinous characteristics yesterday and I was wondering if this is considered mucinous carcinoma. All she knows right now is that it's ER+, PR+, and grade two.

I had ER+ PR+ IDC four years ago. I don't have the BRCA gene mutation, though.

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but I don't think it's the same thing. My tumor had mucinous qualities, but no one treated it any differently or made mention of it. I think tumors can have different characteristics, and some mucinous qualities are not that uncommon.

jamie...we have a thread devoted to mucinous breast cancer. You and/or your mom might want to join us on that thread. That said, many pathologists differ on how they describe mucinous cancer. Request a copy of the report and ask the medical oncologist if it is pure or mixed mucinous breast cancer. Also register at the NCCN 'S WEBSITE AND READ THE PROFESSIONAL version ( red logo) of the breast cancer guidelines. Note specifically the pages devoted to mucinous and tubular breast cancer. I wish both of you well.

Thanks! I will tell her what you both said and to register at the NCCN's website.
