My 43 year old wife was recently diagnosed with stage 2b, grade 3, triple negative IDC breast cancer.  Currently, she’ doing dose-dense neoadjuvant chemo regiment of A/C---->T for four months (started 16 April – second treatment 30 Apr, etc....)  Other than the nausea, she’s really had mild side effects.  However, last night she had a sharp pain in the area of her 2.6 cm tumor, which also has a 1 cm satellite tumor nearby.  What could this possibly be?  Is the cancer growing/spreading or are is the chemo A/C drugs combating, killing or shrinking the tumor(s)?

Also, please forgive me if I've posted this in the wrong location.  I'm new here and really not thinking to clearly.  Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

My tumor deteriorated like swiss cheese--holes through the middle. My surgeon told me tumors break up either like swiss cheese or from the outside toward the inside. I swear I could feel crackling at times and perhaps I did. In any case, right from the beginning of my chemo, my tumor was breaking up (surgeon did ultrasound frequently, so we knew). I'd bet that her pain is from the tumor breaking up. Most of us don't seem to have pain from tumors growing, at least in the short run. Hugs.

Thank you for the speedy response, WinningSoFa

I forgot to mention that on this past Tuesday, May 5, her onco told her that her tumor still felt hard and they normally "get softer" over the course of the treatment.  I guess everyone is just plain different in how their cancers react to the chemo.  I might just have her request a few ultrasounds to get a better look-see at her tumors...this so they can adjust mixture if necessary.

    Again, thank you
