Hello! I am 38 years old and had left breast pain last Monday. I took motrin for a couple of days and figured it was just stress related. The pain increased by Wednesday evening and I went to an urgent care clinic that gave me pain meds that didn't work. Thursday, I saw the nurse practicioner at my GYN office and she felt lumps around the area of my pain and sent me for an mri and ultrasound and gave me Lortab for pain.

A little History: I found a painful lump in my right breast in 6th grade and left breast in 8th grade. Both were removed and benign. I was told that I had fibrocystic disease. I started birth control pills in 10th grade and haven't had any issues until the last year or so. I had a hysterectomy in 2009, so there's no way for me to know if I'm going through menopause. I have been checking my breast for years and I believe I know when something isn't right. Until I had a breast reduction in 2011. So, my breast felt different afterwards and it's harder for me to check them. However, in October of 2013 I requested my 1st mammogram to get a baseline. The only issue I had then was occassional nerve shocks in my breast that I thought should have ceased after being 2 years postop from a reduction. They called me back to get a repeat mammogram because they discovered my density. I also requested an ultrasound and both were negative, so I figured all was well. October 2014, I had no pain issues and my annual mammogram and ultrasound were negative again! Which I was elated about!

Until this recent pain started. The pain is more intermittent now, but still prevalent. I really pray nothing is wrong, but I believe I know my body well. My GYN has referred me to a breast surgeon and my appointment is today. I'm demanding an mri even if I have to pay for it. I want to believe that it's another fibrocystic cyst or menopausal changes, but if it's something else....I need to know asap! I have 3 children that are still depending on me and it scares me to even think about leaving them before they're of age.

I really wish doctors would really take the time to listen to their patients. I worked in Healthcare as a nurse tech for 14 years, so I know I have to advocate for myself. I'm so thankful for this site and all the knowledge you guys share.

If anyone has any thought, suggestions or similar issues please help me.

Thanks!
