Hey all wonderful ladies (and gents)

I posted this also in the chemo section however would love to hear from those who are past chemo and a little further out from your initial diagnosis time to see whether you can help out.

I am trying to help a very close friend through the maze of cancer treatment and she is at a bind now in the wonderful grey area.

She is 53 years old

She had ductal invasive 7 mm tumor removed by lumpectomy

Tumor grade is 2, no lymph node involvement, and was planning on following with radiation and hormonal therapy.

However now the oncotype seems to be kinda high, as over 31 is considered high and 18-31 medium, and hers is 29

Oncologist recommended chemo, however is not pushing will honor if she does not want it.

Things have changed so much since my treatment 8 years ago, where there would not have been mention of chemo in this situation as oncotype was not that widely implemented.

Any insights ?

    Hi, Trigeek -

The oncotype scores between 18-31 aren't considered medium - they are considered a gray area.  From what I understand, you shouldn't choose chemo or not chemo based on this test if your score is between 18-31.  Believe me - I researched it.  I was a 19.  I chose chemo and I'm happy I did.

Consider getting a mammoprint test, as there is no gray area.

    Best of luck to you.
