I was just diagnosed with IDC with DCIS. I know very little at this point, but today was my scheduled MRI. I am overweight and highly claustrophobic, and even with an oral sedative I could not remain in the space for even a few seconds. Ive been searching for a place in MN that can perform the breast MRI with an open MRI, or maybe even a larger bore. I have to get this done, and Im on the verge of panic. Any suggestions??

    Hi Naynat-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're sorry for your recent diagnosis, but we're glad you've found us, and hope you find the support and information your're looking for!

Have you reached considered reaching out to your local cancer center, to see if they have any resources, or leads for you to follow up on? Or are healthy enough to undergo full sedation? We have heard of some MRI centers using IV sedatives for patients who are extremely claustrophobic. It may be worth checking with the center that will be performing your MRI, to see if that's an option that is available to you.

We're so sorry that you're experiencing this, we hope you're able to find a solution that works! Please keep us posted, we're sure we have other members that would love to know if such options exist!
