dark nipple discharge/blood after excisional?

hello,

Three weeks ago I had an excisional biopsy. Three days later I was on the table again to drain a massive hematoma and cauterize the vein.

Since then I have been healing well, besides the occasional bump in the chest from my very active almost 2 year old ;). In fact, I recently had a second post op and she was impressed with my healing.

however, yesterday I noticed a dark stain on my nipple. the last time I nursed my son was the day before my first surgery. It was the perfect time to wean him. I had no engorgment, mastitis, swelling, redness. I had a perfect weaning experience. My son did well too! When I saw the stain I decided to see if I could express some milk. It looked the same from both nipple except the nipple on the side I had the surgery also expressed a very dark almost black liquid. I'm assuming it is old blood and I'll call the surgeon just in case. But I wanted to ask..

is it "normal" to have bloody discharge a few weeks after surgery? Well, two surgeries? My next appointment isn't til the end of may so I'm not sure if I should wait till then or just call today. I don't want to seem like I'm over reacting to nothing.

my biopsy site is very high on the breast, in between the second or third ribs if that makes a difference.

any and all experiences/input is appreciated! Thank you!!
