Bleeding after MRI biopsy

Hi, I have been diagnosed with breast cancer in my right Breast with a ultrasound needle biopsy. Then I was given and MRI mammogram to rule out any other areas. They found something in my left breast. So today I had a MRI biopsy on left breast. All went fine and I went to work then it started bleeding horribly. Took quite sometime two rounds of 20 minutes of pressure on the site. Now my breast is swollen three times normal size and has hard knots in it. Dr said they must have hit an artery and it is common. Has anyone else had this happen? If so how long for the swelling and hardness to go away?

    Thank you

    Hi Heather-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're sorry for what brings you here, but we're so glad you've joined us, and hope you find the support and information you need.

We're so sorry that this happened! We've heard of bleeding after biopsy, but not to the extent that you're describing. Thank goodness you were able to get it stopped! Depending on how your body heals, the swelling can hang around for a few days to a week. If it doesn't get better, or gets worse, we recommend calling your doctor as a precaution.

Hopefully you start to feel better soon. Keep us posted on the results of your biopsy, we'll be thinking of you!

Thank you, I went to my Dr today to have them look at the swelling and make sure it was ok. I have a hematoma. It should absorb over time and be fine. I just have to make sure it doesn't worsen in any way or I call the dr back.
