lumpectomy or maectomy

im a 35 year old female. Grandmother died with breast cancer cervix cancer and bone cancer. Mother and sisters have no problems. I have extremely lumpy breasts and have made the decision to speak to a doc on getting a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. Tired of worries. Has Anyone else in my position done the same thing. I have no one else to relate to.

My mother had BC and I too have lumpy/ very dense breasts. I just had BMX after needed 2nd lumpectomy for suspicious ADH cells . I have been biopsied almost a dozen times and had 5 surgeries and then last year needed a lumpectomy with another needed this year. Enough! I just had surgery last week. decided to have breasts removed as I was looking at continuous biopsies and possible surgeries and just waiting to hear diagnosis or not. I didn't want to find out if and when I may get cancer. My mother and I do not carry gene. Extreme dense tissue harder to image so always get ultrasounds and if can MRI's along with mammographies. I was being taken piece by piece. I had my first surgery at age 13. While they were all benign, because of the family history and lumpy breast they had to biopsy or cut out suspicions to make sure. It is a very personal choice. I may never had had the diagnosis but my other alternative was lumpectemy again and tomaxafin. You may want to see a genetic counselor to help understand your risks but its not definitive for everyone. For me it did not play into the decision which made it harder to decide, I have young kids and need to be around to hear them fight over who started it first. Good luck in your decision. I just started this reconstruction journey so I am a bit new around these streets.
