Who do I believe

Options

I've had three surgeries for DCIS with close margins on the last surgery of .5mm. The surgeon was on vacation so another surgeon checked results and called me to sayI was good to go to radiation. But when my surgeon got back from vacation she called to say the margin was too close for comfort and she advises me to talk to a plastic surgeon about madtectomy. She can do a fourth surgery but feels it may not be the cosmetic outcome I'd like. (Nipple may pull in). I could get a fill but dometimes as the tissue may die a mammogram could show calcifications. Bringing me back to a biopsy situation. Does anyone have Nt feedback. I think a slight disfigurement is more acceptable to me than a complete reconstruction. She is also concerned that the fourth surgery and radiation may give me chronic sensitivity. But I read that a mastectomy can do that too! Feedback anyone?

Hi!  Its really such a personal decision.  I had bilateral lumpectomies, DX of IDC in left breast and what the BS called a party going on in my right breast.  Now that all my test results are in saying I do not need chemo, I have opted to have a BMX with immediate recon to avoid radiation too.  The thought of chemo and radiation scared me, again another personal decision based on my research and what I thought was best for me.  To be able to handle my cancer dx surgically alone is a blessing to me.

Good luck making your decision.  I am a wreck with my sx date looming, but at the same time I know by August I'll be done with my new foobs in place.

    Hi Audrey,

I missed your response! How are you! I have a second opinion on Thurs with another surgeon and plastic Surgeon. I hope this finds you comfortable and peaceful!

    Hugs!
