You can use a modern memory foam mattress which is more comfortable than spring mattress and it can give you better back support and airflow. You must consider the firmness , comfort level, motion transfer, sinking, sagging, back support, cover material, body contour, no pressure point, etc while purchasing a new mattress. Many bad mattresses cause you unwanted pressure point, body ache, joint pain, lower back pain, skin allergy, etc. If you have back pain issue, you shouldn't use soft mattresses because it will increase your back pain.

I sleep on a Tempurpedic mattress which has a cooling channel in it so it's not as hot as the older ones. It's great and could never go back to a box spring type mattress. I was very lucky as a store was going out of business and bought mine for 50% off. I have Tempurpedic travel overlays to use when traveling and staying in hotels.
