Major Anxiety

I am having major anxiety about my surgery coming up in four days. I am having double lumpectomy and feel like I am going to not survive. The tumors are both small and stage 1 but I feel like all I have gotten lately is bad news. Need some encouraging words.

This is scary stuff and anxiety is to be expected. Many of us needed meds for a time after dx and they help a lot. I had two excisional biopsies aka partial mastectomies before my double Mx. They were not bad for me and the recovery was no problem. I generally go to the hospital pre surgery with the attitude that my docs and the hospital staff are excellent at what they do and I feel very safe and calm. You got this Nanc. We'll be right there with you

Nancdance, you're going to be fine.  I also had a lumpectomy for small Stage 1 mass on 3/16/15.  The surgery was a breeze; the healing has been steady and not painful.  I feel some nerve twinges from time to time but nothing major and the doctor says its completely normal.  Be thankful for the Stage 1 diagnosis and try and focus on your on your first step toward treatment and beating this terrible disease.  I've gotten back to working out and I feel great.  Sure, when you focus on the negative aspects, it's easy to get in the dumps and I've been in plenty since my diagnosis.  But, I'm focusing on the good news, listening to my treatment team, and am taking a day at a time getting better and stronger and coming out from out of the dark clouds.  That's not to say I won't have bad days, but we all know how you feel and you will get through your surgery (the doctor and staff do these surgeries all the time) and on your way to recovery!  Be well.

nance, this guided meditation (see link for an excerpt) hoped with my anxiety. The full MP3 is on my phone now. I know I sound like a commercial, but I listened to it several times before my surgery last Friday, and it helped. Exercise helps. A massage could calm you down, or a funny movie. Christine is right, this surgery is new to us, but the docs do it all the time. It's hard to trust them, I know. Hang in there.
