IDC and cancerous calcifications

Was wondering if anyone out there had my mix...and what your prognosis is...My tumor is small (size of dime) but is invasive and now they discovered cancerous calcifications but (in sutu) so not spreading past tissue...

 

My grade of tumor is 3...so that scares me that maybe it has spread to lymph nodes...I just hate all this and have absolutely no family members with breast cancer (on mother or father side)....so WHY ME!????

Calcifications are not themselves cancerous. They just tend to form in specific patterns in cancerous areas. Most women have some calcifications as they age.

It is very common to have both invasive and ductal carcinoma in situ together

they told me the calcifications are precancerous...so I have to have a full mastectomy now, instead of a lumpectomy...

I was first diagnosed with DCIS (in situ) after clustered calcification a were seen on my mammogram, and two biopsies confirmed it. Because the calcifications covered a large area, and were close to the nipple, I was strongly advised to have a mastectomy. The final pathology revealed IDC as well, that had not been detected by mammo or MRI. I was very glad that I had decided on the mastectomy! Good luck to you as you begin your treatment

Hi Halfabannana-

Just curious,what was your DIEP flap like? how long was the surgery? how many weeks were you off work? that is one of the surgeries I might consider...that or TUG? any pros or cons about it, that you could share? I'd love to get my extra flab off my stomache and put it on my chest LOL! are you in Northern CA or Southern CA? Im in Sonoma County...
