Did u start hormonal treatment after radiation
Or during radiation?

I started after. After mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, chemotherapy from February to July, and radiation - I chose to wait until the first of the next month the same week I had my port removed. My oncologist suggested this.
I did run a 10K 2 days after my last rads :-)
Some do start with rads.

i started Femara (was not available at the time as the generic letrozole). That was a week after starting rads which was a week after last Taxol.
-
I started after rads. My MO wanted to wait so it would be easier to determine if any SE were from rads or the meds.
-
During radiation.
-
My onc at first suggested starting with rads, but i wanted to wait so, like PoppyK, we could determine which SEs were which.

My MO told me to wait until a month after completing rads, as others have said, so we could be sure what side effects were due to what. I wonder if the more advanced stage you are, the more they want you to start right away though.
-
About 6 weeks after finishing rads...
-
I started tamoxifen in December and didn't start rads 'til January 5th. So. I did it before.
-
Started 1 month after finishing chemo and a few weeks before radiation started. I had no issues doing them together.

I've done 6 mo. neoadjuvant Femara and will continue on it through surgery and radiation. I'm hoping not to have to do chemo and don't know if I'd have to stay off of Femara during that time. I'd be very reluctant to go off it, however.
I don't know, however, why you couldn't start endocrine therapy while healing from surgery. Maybe not the week after surgery but the 2nd or 3rd week...
-
thank you. It makes complete sense to wait.
Hoping not to get any crazy side effects
-
I started during. I had no issues doing them together... other than burnt skin from rads, of course.
-
I started a few days before radiation so I did both at the same time. Since I had cancer in one lymph node I knew the beast could travel so I was happy to start the two together. I didn't really (and still don't) have any side effects with either.
-
well I will call tomorrow and a get a definite answer. I had clean nodes and believe she told me I could wait but want to make sure
-
They let me choose if I wanted to start with radiation or wait. I decided to wait because I just wanted to deal with one thing at a time. I finished radiation on a Thursday, started Arimidex the next day on Friday.
-
They let me choose, too. I finished radiation just before Christmas and I started Tamoxifen January 1. I didn't want to deal with two things at once either.
-
I started Femara generic several weeks before starting RADs. No major SE issues to speak of yet.... Both MO and RO said starting or waiting was fine. I didn't want to wait any longer....
-
I started taking anastrozole about a week or two before radiation.
-
keep me posted on how u do on armidex. I finish rads on May 2o and will start med after
