Researchers find Drug Target for vitamin A derivative, ATRA

Options

This news is interesting. Researchers at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts discovered the Vitamin A derivative called ATRA (all-trans retinoic acid), inhibits multiple pathways of tumor growth and can kill cancer stem cells (CSC), which are believed to be the cause of tumor initiation, metastasis and drug resistance. There is no known drug that attacks CSC's, so this research may lead to a new targeted therapy. This inhibitor of the Pin1 enzyme appears to be effective for leukemia (APL) and triple negative breast cancer.
