Lymph node bump

Hi! I'm Liv.

I found a lump in my armpit. I know a lot about lymph nodes due to a scare several years ago. It is an enlarged lymph node. The bump is visible. I saw my doctor who prescribed antibiotics. This is common since the lymphatic system is related to infection. He stated that it would take about a month for it to go away and if it hadn't I'd have to have an ultrasound. He began asking questions about my family medical history. I have a large family and several members have battled cancer. My maternal aunt beat breast cancer a year ago. My paternal aunt it fighting now. Both maternal and paternal grandfathers had lymphoma. My doctor, then, changed his mind and stated he'd like me to have a mammogram at the end of the month. This lead me to remember past symptoms. In mid February, I had extreme! pain in my left breast. It almost felt as if it was behind it or far back on the left side right next to where the lymph node has appeared. I don't know if I'm having any other symptoms, but I'm scared now.

I have several risk factors for breast cancer. The most prevalent is very large dense breasts. I am young, though. I'm only 24. I guess I'm just wanting to know if anyone else has had a lymph node show up before or after diagnosis.

I'm praying for all of you in the waiting game, fighting, and the survivors.

Liv

Hi Liv, welcome to Breastcancer.org. We're sorry for the worry that brings you here, but glad you found us!

We think that your doctor is being responsible by having that mammo done, specially knowing about your family medical history. Anyway, you are very young, so we hope he is right and this lump is nothing but an infection. We know it is not easy, but try to keep you mind out of the worst case while you wait. If you can, it may help to get out, take a walk, get exercise and air, and take good care of yourself till you have your test done.

    Best of luck ,
