thanks light!! I'll check them out....

Juneping, sometimes the goitrogenic substances in natural remedies can cause thyroid issues. It might be best to see an endocrinologist if you haven't already seen one.
-
Heidi, I just googled and it's most affected the hypo not hyper....
-
I second the Nigella Sativa. To me, it's quite the wonderful thing. Not only does it fight cancers, but I had thyroid cancer. I have 1/2 a thyroid left and after surgery that 1/2 went berserk. The Sativa calmed things down. I only wish I had known about it earlier.

leggo....can you recommend which brand or where to buy?? so many of them.....
i really hate my hyperthyroid....feeling so weak and always feel the urge to poop....T_T
thank you!!
-
I usually just buy the seeds bulk at the health food store. They're just raw seeds. I throw them in any food I'd add pepper to. I have seen the extract there as well labeled as "black cumin extract". I haven't tried the extract myself but that may be a good way to get a good dose in a hurry. Sorry, not much help. I imagine you could buy it in any form like turmeric...oil, gel-caps, powdered, etc.
-
Oh, and as long as whatever it is says organic and not irradiated, I imagine one brand is just as good as the other. I know the bulk bin and the extract both make a point of saying so, so it must be a thing.

thanks leggo!!

I'm kind of worried about you June. Can you have it checked out just to make sure it's not a nodule or something making your thyroid go crazy?
-
A note to say, you can toast them before eating if you find them unpalatable. Don't know though if that reduces efficacy.
-
Leggo - thsnks for your kindness. I made an appt for US next Monday. And then I'll go back to see my PCP for a specialist
-
Glad you are having your thyroid checked. Hyper and hypo can sometimes go under the same umbrella of autoimmune disease. I had a berserk thyroid, too, and had to have one lobe removed. A nodule reappeared after a summer of eating broccoli sprouts daily. Of course it could have been caused by other things but the isothiocyanates (also in DIM and I3C) probably made it worse, even if it might have killed some breast cancer cells. Hopefully it did and also does for you but better to have the problems cleared, the earlier the better.

saw my endo today and it was interesting.
So I told her it all started from me fight a cold/flu...and she said that triggered my thyroid issue. It took six or three? (sorry can't remember) months to build up the thyroid hormone while I was fighting the flu. So I had hyper symptoms. And now I am hypo...because that's just the cycle. So I am at the end of the cycle and my thyroid will back to normal around june. And she will check my blood work two more times to confirm. And she checked my family history and she's more confident that my thyroid will OK in time.
Thought it's interesting to share.

juneping,
I hope you are feeling better by now and your thyroid is back to normal. I did have the same symptoms with my thyroid after a cold. It was hypothyroid first and then changed to hyperthyroid later. I too was taking dim before this so I stopped taking it since I knew it will effect my thyroid. The last thyroid test showed my thyroid to be normal. Did you also have the pain in your neck that started in one side for a few weeks and then it changed to the other side of the neck? The name of this disease is acute thyroiditis. I am scared to start dim now after the thyroid is back to normal.
lightandwind,
I started taking black cumin which I found in an Indian store. They call it Kalonji. I put the seeds in the grinder and then put them in an empty capsule (vegeterian) and took it. In your article I read that pregnant women should not take black cumin. It also said that it works better with melatonin.
I just read in your first article about black cumin (nigella sativa) that is more effective if you take it with honey. You can also put in warm water and let it sit for a few minutes which makes it gel like.
Anyone else is taking black cumin?
-
New2bc, I keep nigella sativa, which is not really cumin, around. I like it and sprinkle it on salads, hummus and the like.
-
Momine,
Does yours smell bad like petroleum? The one I purchased is not cumin seeds which are brown. It is black cumin. It think it is the same as yours. I put it in the grinder and put it in empty capsules.
