Hi ladies! I am 7 months post chemo and have been taking tamoxifen for that time. After my 3rd chemo my periods stopped. Until yesterday. I am 34 so my onc suspected it would return. What he didn't mention is how heavy it would be! I've always had normal periods, nothing to write home about. Of course it started at work and on a Friday so I can't call my Gyn or Onc. I left a message for the onc nurse but she's not in until Monday. Did anyone have a ridiculously heavy period? Like a pad and tampon every 2 hours. Sorry for the TMI!! No other side efeffects from tamox excerpt a little hot flashing

I'm 42 and was really hoping mine wouldn't come back! I got my first one last Monday and had a couple days that were really heavy. I even had to get up three times one night because it was so heavy. I'm starting ovarian suppression next week so I shouldn't have to deal with that again.

Edited to add that I'm also on Tamoxifen. No SE at all

Just started my 2nd period on Tamoxifen and I'm going through the same thing. The only good thing is that I use to get killer crazy cramps ...and a cycle of 25 days...but now next to no cramps and a 30 day cyle. I'm really wishing this whole period thing would just be done.

Thank you so much for replying!!! This stuff always happens on the weekends. I called the advice nurse who of course told me to go to urgent care. Her reason... "Tamoxifen can cause..." I wanted to hang up on her. We know all about the possibility of uterine Cancer but really?! Must that be the first thing you jump to? Plus she kept putting me on hold to get info. As in read web md and the tamoxifen fact shee

I assumed mine was so heavy because I hadn't had one since July. I know Tamoxifen can cause uterine cancer but we're premenopausal so doesn't it make sense that it's our period? I'm sure she was covering her butt in case there is a problem. Won't it be nice when everything doesn't have to be about cancer!?! *sigh

Hi. While I can't really attest to the side effects of Tamoxifen because I was Triple Negative, I did want to jump in anyway. I was also 34 when diagnosed and my MO said that because chemo is powerful on the ovaries, it can really play a number on the cycle for several years afterward. This was very true for me. I had light periods before chemo, but they were always heavy after that and never went back to the way they were pre-chemo. She mentioned that it can sometimes be caused by damage to the ovaries and ovarian function by chemo. In this instance, it's not enough to make them stop working all together, but for some (like me), they never quite functioned the same again. Again, I can't offer any insight on Tamoxifen, but wanted to add my two cents that it could also be altered ovarian function as a result of chemo--or a combination of the two. Whatever the cause, I hope it resolves itself soon!

OMG no joke!!! Mine was terribly heavy. It was terrible - I'd wear a tampon + a super maxi pad and sometimes after 30-45 minutes of changing both, I'd be running to the bathroom because both were soaked through. My OB started me on prescription Lysteda and that made it much more tolerable (although still heavy). It is non-hormonal. I would ask your OB if it might be an option for you.
