Hi everyone, I hope someone has an answer to this. The roof of my mouth is very sore, so much so that I am taking 2 extra strength tylenol every 4 hours. At first I thought it was because of the tube they put down your throat but it has gotten worse each day. Today it is bad enough that I am going to call my regular doctor tomorrow morning if not better. This morning it woke me up at 5 and I could not go back to sleep. I took a Hydrocodone tablet 3 hours ago and it has not helped any more than Tylenol. I usually tolerate pain fairly well. The lumpectomy did not bother me this much at all. Has anyone else had this pain? Thanks for your time.

Surgery was March 18th

Suzannecarol, I am sorry you are in pain. My husband does anesthesia in surgery, so I just asked him if you could still be experiencing pain from intubation...he said yes it is possible, not common but possible. I too hope it is better tomorrow, but either way call your surgeon's office and tell the nurse to get their input. Before diagnosis I always hated to call and "bug" the docs or nurses.....after diagnosis, I call. They dont mind one bit, and hey, I am in a fight for my life! who better do they have to talk to!. Let us know what you find out. Hugs!

Thank you Meadow for asking your husband. I just came from the dentist. It hasn''t gotten worse each day so I am thinking if it was intubation then it would be getting better?? Dentist took x ray, tapped on teeth several times, pressed on inside of mouth along jaw line and it did hurt when he pressed the inside of mouth but not teeth. He was puzzled. He gave me an antibiotic to take to see if it improves in a few days as he is wondering if abscessed tooth. I was willing to try anything. I will let you know what we find out in a day or two.

First of all congratulations on 21 years!! That is wonderful news to celebrate and news we all like to hear. I haven't had chemo. Had a lumpectomy a week ago. See the doctor in 1 more week to discuss further treatment I guess and look at incisions which look really good. Mouth still so bad. I have about decided it is an abscessed tooth. Don't know what else it could be. Taking 4 advil and 2 extra strength Excedrin every 4 hours. Antibiotic every 6 hours. It is a strong antibiotic and designed for the mouth or teeth. Pharmacy said one of the best for dental problems. Sure hope it gets better soon. I have been in bed most of time since Sunday. So thankful I can lay down and rest when pain meds kick in. I have gone a few times of not taking it at 4 hours and I sure pay for it. The whole side of my mouth hurts, including my ear.

    Hello Suzannecarol:

Based on my reading of those who have sore mouths at several forum pages, using Biotene to gargle your mouth several times a day can help prevent and/or reduce the sore mouth pain your are currently experiencing. In fact, a gentlemen who has cancer was informed by his dentist to start gargling his mouth with it before any therapy kicked in. He did and never had any mouth sores at all. I've ordered several bottles of Biotene myself in advance of my treatment too. My gf, who is a mother of 2 young girls, who had mastectomy of both breasts, chemo and radiation, advised told to stock up on it before therapy and start using it. Over time, it protects the gums, interior walls and roof of mouth, and best of all, no sores. Taking pain medication is only temporary and you are putting more drugs in yourself...

You can order this from Walmart.com online website, and have it delivered to your home. Good luck! Please let us know if it works for you after a while.

Thank you Nat, I ended up at dentist. He wasn't sure if it was an abscessed tooth, started a route canal. Will finish it in another month. Still not sure it was the problem.
