Interpreting Pathology Report. HELP!

Options

Am I missing something. I don't see where on the pathology report it mentions if I am Estrogen or Progesterone positive. It dies say estrogen receptor 6F11 ventana. 80 percent staining with strong intensity

Progesterone receptor 5 percent weak intensity. HER2. 4b5 Ventana. Equivocal 2+. FISH will be performed

Can someone decipher this or was I supposed to get a separate report on the Hormone status?

My understanding is, your cancer cells tested 80% positive for estrogen receptor and 5% positive for progesterone receptor. HER2 results were equivocal, so they will conduct more testing - FISH - to confirm the results. You will get another report in a few days.

Determining the percentage of positivity is done by looking at 100 cells under the microscope. In your case, as Muska said above, 80 out of those 100 cells stained positive, using a lab test Ventana 6F11. Likewise for the PR, with fewer cells staining positive, using lab testVentana 4b5. Your Her2 test showed an equivocal amount of over expression - so can't be called positive enough to be definitively declared positive, but also not a zero, at least with the testing system used. It will be re-tested using another method (FISH).

Florida--I get the same interpretation as muska--high positive for ER, low positive for PR, and borderline/ambiguous reading for HER2. But just a heads up for you--In many cases the FISH results come back fairly quickly as muska says but not all. A friend of mine had to wait almost two weeks for her FISH report.
