Was diagnosed 3/10 with cancer, the 12th with specifically HER2 neu negative, progesterone and estrogen positive. First ever mammogram and feeling fine, so overwhelmed to say the least. I was assigned a team of 3 oncologists--one surgeon, a radiation specialist, and a medication specialist, we meet Thursday (On my 4th birthday). What is your best advice for this appointment? They said plan to stay at least 3 hours and bring family and or friends.

What should I expect? Advice pls!

So sorry to hear your news. Number one is to do some deep emotion-settling breathing when you feel overwhelmed!. Second, remember that you are your own best advocate. Ask all the questions you need to. Read a lot about your specific type of cancer. Get yourself with the best docs and surgeons you can and don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Take someone with you to your appointments. It is so helpful to have another set of ears. Write down all of your questions before your appointments and bring pens and paper to take notes during your consults. It is amazing how much info there is that you as the patient can miss as you are trying to manage your emotions at the same tine. During one of my consults I found myself thinking about what was for dinner that night! My hubby was able to fill me in on the missing info!! Another time I was so focused on what the doc was telling me about the post- surgery appearance of my breasts that I completely missed the stats about recurrence. It's a lot of info coming at you so buckle up. And lastly ask for help and allow others who love you to support you. Best wishes. It's a bumpy ride, sister!!
