Radiation and Implants

Hi everyone,

I am starting this thread because I am not finding much information about the effect of radiation on implants. Anyone have previous implants before starting radiation? I have had mine for ten years before diagnosis. Now, I have to decide between MX or lumpectomy and radiation. I did read it may be a further cause of swelling in the arm. I would appreciate any information with this.

Hi mysunshine48.  I, too, am trying to research information on this.  I had a recurrence after a BM, chemo and taking an AI for five years.  This past November I had surgery to remove a lump on my right (cancer side), completed chemo again in March and started radiation this month.  I did not have radiation the first time around.  The RO said I might have some pain and hardening of the implant but she didn't say much else!  Anyone have any experience with this?  I need to know what to look for and options.  Thanks!
