Gonna be another hot one today but we may see some storms tonight. They are saying our latest heat wave is going to last for a couple more days.

Nan . . .luv the fairy gardens. I need some around my pond. Maybe end of summer sale.

It's been either too hot or too wet to do much in the garden this summer. I lost my new lilacs, but all the hostas are thriving. Also the wire fencing seems to have stymied the beavers, so the roses they attacked are all growing again. Too little time to enjoy though.

Bluebird, I hope you feel better soon. Good husband to keep up with the garden for you.

Wren and Jazzy. I hope we all get some rain soon! Too hot to be outside too long here but my plants need their water.

Scottie, sorry to hear about your lilacs but glad to hear your roses and hostas are doing well.

Kb870 - Good for you in figuring out a way to grow lettuce. I can only grow lettuce in the winter. And my winter garden is really my favorite. Its true, its so nice to go out and pick a few leaves for your meal. Salad no fresher then that. I generally have romaine, kale, collards, endive.

Bluebird - hope you can get out and talk to your garden some. You have a good hubby.

I've not been on a garden forum prior to this year, particularly with so many from all over. I love it though. It is definitely a reminder of how different our weather is, particularly the amount of rain, if any. We had a record rain month in June. Rainy in July also, but not sure if we are close to breaking a record. The weeds are winning out right now : ( Too hot to deal with them.

Good morning ladies- I realized this week I have not had any rain at my house in close to two months. Monsoonal rains have started here and parts of the city are getting rain, but not here so far. Supposedly better chance of some tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Harvested a handful of pea pods from the garden and a few beans that were ready to pick yesterday. More coming.

scottiemom......i have quite a few mini hostas and would be more than happy to send you some to get you started on your mini garden....I have 3 different kinds of minis growing around my pond ....a 1in, 3in, and 6in,....i cant remember their names tho sorry(they were all gifts from other gardeners)....pm me if you're interested, and if you think they would do as well in your part of the country.....do your hostas still go dormant in the winter....i brought some in one winter cuz they're so cute and they died back but came right back up in the spring...i thought you might be able to enjoy your garden a bit longer than us here in michigan....

Jazzygirl - I've my fingers crossed for you also for some rain. Sure wish mother nature distributed her rain better, we've had an abundance.

Lucy - love your pic. The pots are beautiful and I truly love your garden layout. I can imagine enjoying your porch overlooking your plants. Love it!

Mommyof2 - exciting to get some goodies from the garden. You reminded me that I have not grown any beans, or maybe sugar pods. . . might have to try a late season, since my tomato plants are dwindling from so much rain past few months.

Nan812 - you had me curious what mini hostas looked like. I had picked up a few this spring but my desire was BIG. I was surprised to see how small some plants are. With your miniature garden areas, no doubt they work just right for you.

Still got more to come. Looks like I won't have to water the garden for at least a couple of days. Finally getting some rain this morning.

Well Ladies - just saw this topic - thought I would chime in - it's my first year I'm back in my garden since my DX. We have had 4 good meals of green beans. Tomatillos have there little bulbs - some have the tomatillo growing and some are hollow. Tomatoes are all green still. Have a tree full of apples - Our squash isn't doing well - I have only gotten 2 squash. Corn is growing no tassels yet and grape jelly grapes are going hog wild.

Unfortunately, I ended up with a little tendonitis in my left wrist and had a cortisone injection last week. So all my gardening is one-handed at the moment.

HI Gma Foley. Welcome to the group! I am envious of your fresh green beans and MOmmys as well. Mmmmmmm I have a friend who has posted pictures of the two bushels she has now picked. I don't have much luck here with beans because once our heat turns on it scorches almost eveything

Lucy, that is a gorgeous area!

Gardennerd, I may have to use your idea and try to grow my lettuce in the winter. We do get pretty cold here at times but maybe a row cover would help. Fresh lettuce is the best

Gma Foley, Good to see you again. It sounds like you have a fair-sized garden. DH always plants corn, but so few that he has to pollinate with a paintbrush. We were pretty surprised last year to get 4 decent ears from the tiny patch.

I can't remember - there are 5 different types - think gala, granny smith, yellow delicious and ?? - I usually have so many we put them in a pot, put them through a strainer and make apple sauce or freeze them for pie.

    Yum!

I have 3 small trees (Rambo, White Permain and Bernais), but deer and disease seem to get them all. I may have to spray next spring.
