Can le cause numbness in upper arm?

no. It is in the back of the top of the upper arm

barb, I think that's more likely to be a result of the initial surgery. Nerves get damaged. A lot of us have permanent numbness there. I've gotten used to it and it doesn't bother me anymore. If this was new, though, you'd want to get it checked out.
