I just came across this page that says one of the side effects of the Neulasta shot is the potential for it to stimulate tumor growth... What?! Am I reading this correctly.. Have you heard this before

On another slightly unrelated to this article note (I'm not suggesting that I think the shot has made her cancer cause the pain after just one injection.. I'm just asking this second question generally) ..... My mom just had her first round of chemo last Wednesday and the Neulasta shot the next day. She is currently experiencing dull and constant pain in her lower/mid right back. Her oncologist doesnt seem to be concerned. Has anyone else experienced this on the right side of their backs?

Neulasta can cause body aches. Oddly enough, Claritin or zyrtec can offset it. I took zyrtec for a few days leading up to chemo then a few days after and never had aches from Neulasta.

I'm sorry you didn't get good information from your onc. Nuelasta will cause that pain in the lower back, hips, and other joints. But it reduces your chance of getting infection when your immune system is compromised by chemo. It's not the cancer causing that pain, it's the bone marrow making massive white blood cells to protect the body and pushing it out of the bones. It's not as bad with the following shots. Claritin can help because it diminishes the histamine response and you can take tylenol. staying well hydrated makes a big difference too. About 6 days after my first nuelasta shot the pain peaked in the middle of the night for me and was excruciating for about 45 minutes, but was better after that. But in that moment, I wished I had someone with me to at least get some tylenol in my body because I couldn't get out of bed. so she may not be done hurting yet. But I'm able to work in a school without getting sick thanks to those white blood cells.
