Confused about mammo and ultrasound today

I need some support, I'm so worried. To make a long story short, I was incorrectly treated for thyroid cancer with radioactive iodine soon after giving birth to my son. I was still lactating and was assured it wouldn't be an issue. Come to find out later, they irradiated my breast tissue 10 times more than a non-lactating women which majorly increases my risk for breast cancer. I started having spontaneous bloody discharge out of my L breast last year, had normal mammo and ultrasound but abnormal MRI which showed a dilated duct. BIRAD of 3. Had 2 more MRI's 6 months apart that showed no change. I was put on oral chemo for my thyroid cancer and my next breast MRI came out clear. 6 months forward, I started leaking again. Went to GP who did breast exam and found lump. Had diagnostic mammo and ultrasound today. Mammo came back abnormal but they wouldn't tell me what they found. Ultrasound tech said there was a large duct and lymph node next to it. She said nothing looks scary, but they look large and she did a ton of measurements and then sent me on my way. Has anyone ever had a tech tell you everything was ok when it wasn't??? It is not fair that we have to wait and stress about this!!!

    Hi Beth,

Sorry you are going through the unknown now. In my experience the technician has never said it was okay when it wasn't.

Hopefully you get an answer pretty soon and hopefully it is benign.

    Hugs

Techs don't know if it is ok. The doctor won't even know until they see pathology report...if a biopsy is recommended. I would try not to "borrow trouble" as they say. It could very well be nothing to worry about. Try to keep busy until you hear. Hang in there.

Thanks for responding!  Doctors office called today and said the only thing on the report was a benign looking large lymph node. Kind of relieved but can't shake the feeling that something isn't quite right.

That is great news about your benign result. We hope all your future fears settle down and your health stays good.
