DIEP Reconstruction @ Kaiser Santa Clara
Hello, I'm high risk for breast cancer and am planning to have a bilateral mastectomy with immediate DIEP reconstruction at Kaiser Santa Clara within the year. Does anyone have experience with Dr. Oscar Ho? I appreciate any feedback! Thank you in advance.

dr. Ho did my sGAP flap. Dr. Bitar did my mastectomy. Him and his staff did a great job and the nursing staff was terrific! I go to see him on the 11th to disscuss phase 2.

Thanks, Sacnaillady! Did you happen to have nipple sparing done? He wasn't sure if mine would survive.

I did the nipple/skin sparring. He told me the same thing but I lucked out. He kinda laid the skin/nipple over the flap on my first surgery and the nurses checked me every hour to make sure the flap survived. Then he went back in on day 3 and attached everything and made sure everything was attached and there was not any problems with my veins. I did have a quarter size necrosis on the lower part of the nipple but it was expected. It took about 8 week for the scab to fall off but as expected there was nice skin underneath. If your nipple doesn't survive you can always get a 3D tattoo nipple.
There's a great DIEP Facebook page with lots of great info. I wish I would have found them before my surgery. You should look it up and join. What is your surgery date

It's called DIEP Flap support group.

remington,
I did not have DIEP but I have had all of my care at Kaiser Santa Clara. I had a bmx with one step implants . The hospital is relatively new with private rooms and a great nursing staff. One thing to remember is that up until a few years ago, the plastic surgeons only did recon surgeries, so they have extensive experience. I think they now offer cosmetic, but since it's self pay, I think they probably still do more recon. Wishing you the best

Thanks exbrnxgrl and Sacnaillady! I am a member of the DIEP group on FB. I asked about Kaiser Santa Clara but it didn't seem like anyone had gone there so I thought I would try this site for feedback! Sacnaillady, did you have any issues with wounds or healing? It feels like a leap of faith so it's nice to hear from someone who has the same PS!

I did have an open wound on the bottom breast crease. We had to pack it and it took about 6 weeks to close. I think people who have had radiation have a harder time.

Hi, I'm 6 days post-op from my MX with DIEP reconstruction, performed by Dr. Ho at Kaiser Santa Clara. I have nothing but great things to say about him and the entire staff. Time will tell how things turn out, but so far everything has gone according to plan and I'm healing as expected. Let me know if you have specific questions, since it's all very fresh for me.
