Did you have chemo before mx? If you traveled, how did you coordinate that with the local place? Did they give you a hard time about going to NOLA or whatever you went?

Yes, I did. But I completed the whole course of treatment--chemo, MX and radiation--and did delayed recon. I think it would be difficult to undergo DIEP right after chemo. Just my two cents.

Tryler, I did chemo before my mastectomy at Dr Stolier's recommendation and had no problems. I finished my chemo on February 21 and had surgery on March 14. I had a unilateral mastectomy with Dr Stolier and then they put a temporary imp!ant in while I did radiation. I finished rads in May and then had my reconstruction and right mastectomy at NOLA in August. Everything worked out fine. Dr Stolier knows his stuff and when we got my path reports back they found no cancer in my breast or lymph nodes so chemo did it's job!!!

Gram: That was especially helpful because this is exactly what they want me to do although I will see if anything changes when they get my new imaging in NOLA Monday which shows a bigger tumor and 2 more likely smaller cancers, 2 calcifications which could be in the cancers and one node. My concern is that all the local doctors keep telling me going to NOLA and how aftercare will be problem, yada, yada…..

I just don't want the hassles.
