Mom was diagnosed with ibc/idc bone mets. She finshed chemo, had MRM. We thought would move on to radiation but just met with radiation doc and was told would not be getting as would not cure her cancer, only effect her quality of life. I thought radiation was standard care in IBC, thoughts???

Same advice as Bon. I was already stage IV so radiation would not be used to stop the spread of cancer. I have ibc & idc with bone mets & did 8 months of chemo & bi-lateral mastectomy. I'm just about 6 years out and have had radiation to my bone mets when I was in a lot of pain & we radiated a lymph node that later showed up. We use radiaton only for palliative treatment. Each person is unique.

My IBC developed over my IDC after the ductal FNA biopsy. Urgent neoadjuvant treatment consisted of chemo , then a mastectomy (inc full node clearance) followed by 25 doses of radiation. Now on Tamox and NED.

    traveltext,

The op's mother has bone mets. The tx is often different if you have mets from the outset and may not include mastectomy or radiation to the breast since the focus shifts to keeping the mets at bay
