Bruising 5 months after mastectomy.
Two days ago I noticed all of a sudden my rt. boobless, (that's what I call the areas where they used to be), was bruised and swollen. I don't remember bumping it at any time. I stopped at my mo office. 2 nurses and a physicians assistant looked at it. She called my mo. Still a mystery. I had an ultrasound yesterday, friday. It showed only scar tissue. (Huge relief). By then it was a lot less swollen and faded. This morning it was all bruised again, and the area was a bit larger. The area is about as large as my cupped hand. Has anyone else ever had this happen?

I had a pretty huge hematoma after surgery but didn't see bruising. It was seen on a scan. Hopefully they will find an answer for you soon.

The odd thing is I'm 5 months post op.

Did your MO just say it was a mystery and left it at that or will they follow up? They should either say it is usual and nothing to worry about or do more investigating. Very strange that they would leave you with "mystery". Is there someone else you can see?

I had the ultrasound and am to follow up with my surgeon. They also said that if I have any concerns or changes to call right away.

I'm sorry no one has come by to comment who might have experienced this. It might get more responses tomorrow. It is hard to deal with these things on a weekend with no doctors around. Sometimes it seems like the crap from this disease is endless. I hope you have someone close by for support or a distraction at least until you can see your surgeon and maybe someone here will see this tomorrow and offer some more insight. I hope you have a decent sleep. I know it is late in Michigan. Take care of yourself.

Hi Cwayman, I don't want to frighten or worry you, however I would definitely take this further with your medical team. I can't see on your bio if you had radiation, however it would appear that you didn't, so it may not be what I have been warned about by my medical team.
I had major complications with radiation and having had 30 glands out. About 3 years after the treatment I developed lymphangioma circumscriptum, a result of developing lymphadema after the treatment. The oncologist has warned me to be aware, and check the area regularly and if I see a bruise, it could be an indication of another cancer, not breast cancer, but another serious type of cancer, which I won't go into here, as I don't want to concern you.
Please keep asking the doctors, until you get an answer.

I had an ultrasound and it only showed scar tissue. Praise the Lord. Seen my surgeon Monday. He said I must have broken a couple blood vessels. If I get a spot that doesn't go away he will biopsy it. I see him again in 6 weeks.

That is great news, glad it turned out so well for you. The bruising that I was told to be aware of (in my above post) was angiosarcoma I have been warned that it could come from the lymphangoma circumstriptum and the bruising can be one of the first symptoms.
So glad this is not the case for you, I am sure you are so relieved, . Go enjoy
