Starting Chemo March 2015

Theresa,
I'm in the same position. At home I go commando. I just do not care. My hair is 50% gray so you can barely see it. I always see women of color go out with what I have and they pull it off all the time. When I go out with a wrap I look like I'm going to clean someone's house. I'm hoping to go out with my hair by the end of September. I just don't feel like dealing with the looks or the pity right now. Maybe I'm just being paranoid and am not comfortable...I don't know.
-
Allison, I got that touch up for gray thing with a little brush at the store. I figure this first inch or so of hair is gonna need to get cut off anyways because it is probably still damaged by chemo. Most of my hair was dark with this weird silvery/clear frosted look. Hello 70s and Jane Fonda! Not!
Thinking of going to my hair stylist and getting some red tips. Probably not gonna do all hair red, but some tips might be kind of fun for a bit.
I see women with hair my length all the time. Guess one of these days I just bite the bullet and do it. Maybe after I add the red in so it looks like I did it on purpose. My friends sister is 58 and she does this haircut on purpose. Crazy! I think part of it for me is when there are no thin areas where my scalp shows.
I started going commando in my truck to and from work. Baby step.
Still debating about my class reunion Labor Day weekend. Haven't seen most of those people in 30 years!
-
You are brave, Theresa! I think you should go to the reunion if you want to go.
-
July 23rd: (sorry for the toilet in the background)
Today:
-
Allison, Hair looks sooooo long to me!!! I don't think I'll ever get there!!! I know I will..... just can't even imagine at this shiny bald moment!! LOL!!
-
You will, Leigh! Just a couple of more weeks, I think.
-
Allison, growing in! It will come in faster now. Plus it looks like you have some of the "fishing line" hair, which will show up better once you can start dying it.
I still have this stupid bald spot in the front which is my main concern. If it would fill in, I would be fine with my hair length and I would go without anything.
-
Can you take an overhead pic? It doesn't look bad from this angle.
-
You can see the "bald" area better in this picture. I hate it!
-
Italy chick and Allison - you gals look a lot better than me! I'll have to post pictures ...looks like I'm going to be the "silver fox".
-
I guess it's good-bye brown hair for me. And really! What's with the hair on top? I can't wait til I can have a Jaime Lee!
-
you look so fabulous as a blonde I would totally do the blonde look. And your hair looks like it is growing back nice and uniform.
-
thanks, Theresa! But the top and sides are pretty sparse. Just so weird to not have brown hair...I didn't know I was that gray! Lol. Wonder if it's easy to dye gray to blonde?
-
Amy...glad to hear your DD is doing well and will be home soon.
I had my last rads today, but was in no mood to celebrate really. Right afterwards I went to take my radioactive iodine pill for my thyroid cancer. I now will be alone at my parents house in isolation for a whole week! I'm already missing my kids so much. I hope I don't go crazy by myself here! Wonder if I'll glow in the dark? Probably not, but that would be interesting to see.
Happy to see here all the hair coming in for everyone! It's amazing to me how fast everyone's hair is coming in, at 4 weeks PFC, I was still pretty much bald. But my hair really took off after that, and now about 2 months PFC have about 1/4" of hair now with all the patches nearly all filled in. In this last month my brows and lashes have returned, hopefully for good!

Whitney...it is a hard subject to discuss when dating. Personally, and this is just me, but I think I would want who ever I was dating to know right off the bat. This way there are no surprises down the road, and possible disappointment for both parties if the person can't deal with/accept it.
So sorry you're having to deal with this. Hope rads is going well for you...

Yeah, the dating thing.....I'm not there yet but once the divorce is finalized (prob filing at the end of the year, since there's no animosity it seems like taxes will be much easier that way).....
I don't want anyone to be put off by my fake scarred up boob. Getting a lift on the regular one so they face the same way (don't want one looking at the ground & one looking at you straight on - that'd be weird) so more scars. I think I'd be right up front because if it's a problem for someone I'd rather move on. But I guess it's hard to say until i'm there.
Theresa: I think you could totally pull it off commando!
-
I still don't have any hair! Boohoo
PB I'm thinking about you in isolation. I hope the week goes quickly. Can you use the time to pamper yourself?
Whitney, as hard as it may be I'd tell them. Maybe On The Second Date though.
Katy should be just about in her new house by now. How exciting for her.
-
Theresa: I don't think it looks as bad as you think it does. It will come in.
Greenae: You have a lot of hair. It's coming in really nice. I would go grey if I had enough nice grey to pull it off.
Sharon: It will come.
i can't even imagine dating on top of all the stress of BC. I would take it on a case by case basis. If you feel a connection with someone, I think you will know the right time. If you don't, I wouldn't even bother telling them.
-
I have to say, though, Sharon, you have lovely skin on your head.
-
I just got a huge pile of insurance paperwork for pre approval for surgery and all the procedures. Kind of freaked me out a little reading it all.
-
Allison, deep breaths. You are going to a great place for your surgery, I have confidence all will go well. Yes, the paperwork is overwhelming, but you can get through this!
Sharon, I agree, your skin on your head is beautiful. Mine is all scarred and freckled and ugly from years of dirt clod wars growing up in Southern Illinois.
Greenae, lots of young girls are dying their hair gray now, so you will be right in fashion with a gray weave once you get there! If my hair was that light, I would be going Marilyn Monroe blonde. That's what I'm gonna do when I'm a white haired old lady.
Whitney, you would be surprised what the right guy will accept. I got pregnant at 16, didn't get married until 18, yes guess I was a slut lol, and a guy wanted to date me when I was 16. I said well I'm five months pregnant, and he said he didn't care, and dated me through the whole pregnancy. And he is now a judge (I didn't marry him) and still picks up the phone any time I call. I guess what I am saying is the right guys out there will be amazed by your strength, courage, and beauty, and as for the rest, as Robert DeNiro would say fuck you, you fuckin' fuck
-
I think if I try dating again I will at least be sure I want to go out on more than one date before discussing the C word. Can't imagine it right now but maybe someday right?
I go commando now pretty much everywhere but work. I think my hair is thin enough in spots that it looks a little chemo-ish still but since I have my eyebrows back in full force I don't feel self conscious at all. I'm thinking in another couple of weeks I'll lose the hat at work too.
Katy, looks like you're in the new place-furniture and everything or does that happen this weekend? You're gonna be logging some miles unpacking these next few weeks!
-
Yyou gals have a lot of hair, looks great! Sorry Sharon but I agree your head looks so smooth and beautiful what do you put on it?
I go commando at home and wear bandanas and hats, no wigs anymore just too damn hot. I think red is the hot color for summer. And I love the Jamie Lee look, great cut. Once my hair starts really growing back I'm not sure I'll want to cut it.
My drain and morphine pump were not ready to come out today so it'll prob be Monday as I doubt any doctor will meet me tomorrow. Taking the percocets every 4 hours or so, feels like skin is pulling whenever I move and I hate sleeping on my back. Received a nice gift from friends, a delivery of Sharis Berries chocolate covered strawberries, yum yum. No plans now for the weekend except rest, I'm so tired of resting😛 and 500 tv stations and nothing to watch!
-
Sharon I did a super zoom in on your hair. I see some coming in.
Maryellen, so sorry about the drains. Fingers crossed you get them out Monday. How much fluid are you putting out?
-
I still have nights when I wake up at 3 a.m. and can't get back to sleep. I'm trying not to use computers or tablets for a couple of hours before bed or during my bouts of insomnia so I got some crosswords and puzzle books to lull me back to sleep. Anyway, I wanted to be sure to share one particular puzzle with this group. When I ran across it I laugh/cried!
-
where's the damn like button?
-
No shit! Ha ha! They forgot to include neuropathy and hair loss.
-
Where's dry eye, corneal abrasions and mouth sores!!!
Maryellen,
I hope you feel better soon! I agree about the TV. When I had Recon sx last month I was so lucky to get the whole "Thirtysomething " TV series on DVD. Maybe you can get somes DVDs or something on Demand?
For sleeping, I got a large wedge pillow for $40 from Amazon. I am still using it, from mx, during TE and after Recon sx. It really helps. I hope you can get comfortable, I am not a back sleeper either. And the implant side feels strange and the reduction side not healed yet, so I am on my back, too (and cursing a lot under my breath, and sometimes OUT LOUD!)
Hugs!
Arlene

thanks for the nice comments and Theresa for zooming in and making me happy. About 5 years ago I stopped using shampoo on my hair. I use silicone free conditioner as a wash. My hair went from being dry and frizzy to beautiful in a few months. At the moment I'm washing my scalp with sorbolene,I also use it as a moisturiser.
I love the word search sloth. It made me laugh.
I miss me

Ha! I don't see "shart."
