BS dismissive to appearance concerns?

Did you feel your BS was dismissive about your appearance concerns and reconstruction? I am concerned that if I have one procedure (namely lx and rads) that my ability to have reconstruction in the future is going to be compromised and I have seen posts that eluded or discussed this to some extent. The BS's are talking mainly about the cancer. Maybe the issue is the PS is not the most personable guy. Maybe HE should be the one taking the reins with regards to appearance? I don't know. My brain is on overload. ALL procedures seem to have some really bad possible outcomes. I don't know what the heck to do.

my BS was arrogant and difficult but a good surgeon. My PS cleaned up what he left behind. I had a double mastectomy and can't say enough about how I feel about my PS. Talk to another BS and PS before you make your decisions. I opted for the mastectomy to avoid radiation (although I've read it doesn't turn out that way for everyone). I took each step one at a time which makes it a longer process but it was the correct method for me

I didn't have rads, so I don't know how that effects recon, but I did have lx before my mx so it left an additional scar. I am however really surprised at how much the lx scar has faded in less than a year. I think eventually it won't be noticeable.

Yes, all procedures could potentially have a poor outcome; try not to focus on that. I read one woman's terrible story and nearly went flat instead of DIEP. Happy I didn't.

Decide what's important to you and go with your gut instinct.  You're doing your homework, soon something will just feel right for you.

My BS and PS often work together and both seemed concerned about me being happy with the outcome. They answered my questions, but for the most part didn't try to say one option was better than the other. They both seemed really neutral. I meet with them both more than once before deciding and even phoned the BS one Friday night. She patiently listened to me vent my concerns for over 30 minutes! In the end I got hung up on the uni vs. double mx decision. My BS, probably sensing I was never going to decide, held up two fingers and whispered "do both, they will match and you'll be much happier". She was right.

I hope your brain takes a break soon and you find the right solution for you.
