Today I lost my mom to breast cancer. She was diagnosed twice within the past two years and just last week we had learned it had spread to her bones with a vengeance. She was my best friend and nobody will ever care for me, worry about me or love me like my mom did.

I have learned so much about this horrible disease over the past two years, it's not just about charity walks with smiling faces and shiny pink ribbons on everything. It's about every day women and men fighting for their life, giving it all they got and sometimes the disease wins.

If I have learned just one thing from all of this, it is to take care of yourself the best you can. Educate yourself about good health and make it a priority. Aim for prevention and don't race for a cure. And at the end of the day if cancer still becomes a part of your life, at least you can say you've done all you could to avoid it.

My mom fought all the way up to her last breath and I love her even more for it!
