Dr. Massey feedback
It seems like quite a few of you are using Dr. Massey. I see she has a Chicago office. Anyone care to share feedback on her? I am thinking of doing a DIEP flap. Thanks!

Dr. Massey is a fabulous, skilled micro surgeon as well as a kind, compassionate doctor. You really can't go wrong with her. She does have a small Chicago office. I know that she has done Stage 2 surgeries in Chicago, but am not sure if she does Stage 1 (this initial Flap). She may for a uni, but you will need to speak with her staff. She preforms bilateral Stage 1 in New Orleans, where she has several co-surgeons who are equally skilled. Bilateral flap surgery requires two doctors - making it easier on the patient because you are under anesthesia for a shorter period of time. She also does Uni flaps in Charleston at her office here.
If you are considering DIEP or any of the flap procedures, I would encourage you to call her office and set up a consult. She does these over the phone and will spend an hour or two with you.
She preformed bilateral DIEP on me 2 years ago and I couldn't be more pleased. I think that you will find a rather large fan club of happy women out there - though a great many no longer are on the boards here at BCO. I am just about to retire. You might message LAStar - she is a Dr. M fan who just had her DIEP in Charleston.
Good luck with your decision.

I had Stage I with Dr. Massey in September 2014 (4-5 months ago) in New Orleans. The results are amazing. I went to my breast surgeon today for the first time since the DIEP, and she said that the results were spectacular, and she sees a lot of recon

Thanks!

Looks like she might not be an option for me. They said she wasn't coming back to Chicago until December.

you might want to start considering travel for DIEP. It seemed so far fetched when I was in my initial decision phase but I'm glad I did. Even though Dr M has a Chicago office she may still want you to travel for Stage 1

Even though she operates in my town, she didn't do bi-lateral flaps here so I traveled to NOLA. I suspect she is closing down some aspects of the Chicago office. Although I love Dr. M, I suggest that you ask on the DIEP 2014 and 2015 threads if anyone has a doc in your area. Be sure to look for a doctor who preforms the procedure at least once each week, though more often would be helpful.

Traveling is really not an option for me. I have kids and a husband who works 60-80 hours a week. As it is, I am probably going to have to hire some help if I do this.
Can you ladies who waited to have the DIEP until after your mx comment on your recovery? Do you think it was easier than if you had had it all at once?

Trvler - I really think you will get more responses if you are on the DIEP 2014 and 2015 boards. It would really help your decisions with more information.

Ok, thanks MartyJ.
