MO has ordered a PET scan. Can anyone share their experience? I'm not overly worried or anxious about it but I'm curious about what I'm in for...

rleepac -- I've had two PET scans and they are way better than MRIs. No crazy noises or feeling claustrophobic. My PET scan center tells us to eat a high protein diet the day before the scan. Then, no food after midnight. Then, you get to the scan center and they inject you with a tracer. It takes about 45 minutes -- 1 hour for the tracer to settle in. Then, you lie down and the technician moves you in and out of the scanner while you remain still. The scanning takes maybe 20 minutes. My scan center plays peaceful music while you're being scanned, but in December, I got Christmas music. Good luck!

I just had a pet scan yesterday, my second one. It was so much better this time around as I knew what to expect. I had scanxiety before my first one as I did not know how it would go so was so hyped up. But this time around I was much calmer and it was not a bad experience at all. Plus I got great news from the scan so all is good.
