Burn or Infection?

Options

I have only had two radiation treatments, and my breast is red and hurts like heck. I didn't think the burning came this soon, so I'm afraid I have an infection. Can any of you awesome ladies tell me if this is common?

Thanks.

Hi Datota, Yes i had the same problem. Was bright red and hot as hell after the first day of treatment. Hopefully it will settle down, and not get any worse for you. Unfortunatly mine got worse, and even though I kept asking each day, why am I so red and burnt, only to be told, it was my skin type. When you go in for your next radiation treatment, ask the staff to have a look at it. Mine was really dark purple by the end of treatment and all the skin ended up melting and areas of it bled for weeks. I ended up having to have the area dressed for about 2 weeks after treatment ended.

Try and get someone to help you before it gets too bad, I would hate for you to have the problems I have had since the treatments. I have had lots of problems from the radiation, and these problems continue 7 years after I had the treatment..

I also had a negative reaction to radiation therapy.  Third degree burns on, under breast, and upper stomach areas. Skin turned black and peeled of leaving red, raw, infection. Washed the area with baby soap and used Aquaphor and non stick pads. I had 30 radiation treatments. I experienced lots of pain and the Dr. stopped treatments for a week which allowed my body to heal somewhat before continuing and completing treatments. Has anyone else had a bad reaction to radiation?

DakotaGirl, I am starting on week #3 today. I notice some shoulder pain, my armpit is sore, and the skin feels tight when I raise my arm up over my head. But that is it so far. The skin area is a very slight tan color but no other color changes. I hope you ask your RO about it. I see mine tomorrow.

The techs checked yesterday and said it was normal.  I was expecting some redness but not so soon.  See the RO today.
