Having Chemo more than once

Hi all,

I am currently on my second time around with chemo. I originally did 6 rounds of Taxotere and Cytoxan. After I did not achieve a complete pathological response my doctor gave me the option to do more. This time around I am doing 4 rounds of Carboplatin. I was just wondering how often this happens? And, if this lowers the rate of recurrence or a diagnosis of stage 4?

It is not unusual to do 2 different 'batches'of Chemo. For some types, it is usual. Sometimes both neoadjuvant and sometimes neoadjuvant and adjuvant. I did 4 DD A/C neoadjuvant and then 12 weekly Taxol adjuvant.

Thanks Kicks! You seem to be doing well. It's a lot but I am willing to do whatever it takes.

I am doing great! I am NED 5+ yrs post IBC DX and still NED as of last week when I saw my PA - no one knows in what 'tomorrow' will bring.

When I started A/C, a 'complete pathological response' was not expected. The 'goal' was to get it to form into a 'lump' with margins so surgeon could 'get it out'. (IBC forms as 'nests' or 'bands). Surgery then more Chemo to 'hit' anything that was 'hiding'. Made sense to me and worked for me.
