Skin issues
I have a very red irritated patch of skin on my elbow. Have Been using eucerin cream. But don't know how it can work when I am alwaring a garment 24/7. Any advice? Should I not wear a sleeve until the elbow clears up

barb, I use Gottfried sleeves and gloves, and they sew in a silky-soft inner lining to the whole elbow area--my elbows, which used to be tough and sort of calloused, have gotten baby-soft from wearing these sleeves. Love it!
For now, maybe give your arms a garment vacation for a few hours in the evening, when you're not doing anything heavy with your arms. What are you wearing at night?
Keep a close eye on that irritation, check for the signs of infection, and get help immediately if you suspect it might be an early indication of cellulitis.
Keep us posted!

Binney: I never heard of Gottfried before. I am looking around the page, and the Bolero,, sleeve with truncal might work for me! Do they put the liner in all sleeves or do you have to request that? I am on work computer and it's not letting all of the pages load properly.I will definitely be checking them out and showing this to my LE therapist at next appt. She's great at MLD, but I must say,, everything I have learned about compression garments has been right here on this forum, and StepUpSpeakOut !
((hugs)) and chocolate to you,

Glennie, I don't actually know if you have to request it specifically because my fitter does that, so by all means request it.
Your therapist can ask them to send her fabric samples so you can get a sense of the fabric and the colors. They're fast at getting orders out (they're is in the U.S. so the garments don't have to swim the Atlantic!) and my fitter likes working with them. Worth a try.
Thanks for the hugs and chocolate!

binney I wear juxtafit at night. Is your fitter the same as let

Juxtafit has a nice liner, so hopefully that's not adding any irritation--just be careful not to draw the elbow piece too tight. If your Juxtafit has a removable elbow piece, what happens if you leave it off entirely at night? If you don't have problem swelling in your elbow that might ease the irritation too.
Nope, my fitter is at a Prosthesis and Orthotics place. She's amazing, but it took me a long time to find her.

If it's the inner elbow because of the sleeve rubbing against it then you should try anti-friction product called GLIDE. I cannot wear a sleeve without it.Works great! Get it from a runners store, They may have a different brand. I called Glide company and they said it was fine with the sleeve fabric.

Hi bhd1,
I hope your skin has gotten better.
Here's what I have tried. When I use an oil based lotion at night, I would shower in the morning to remove some of it off; or if it has somewhat absorbed into my skin, I would top off with this brand of 100% aloe vera gel in the morning. http://www.lilyofthedesert.com/product/aloe-gelly/ This aloe gel provides a waterbase barrier on top of the heavier cream saving me the time of shower and also keep skin hydrated. Sometime I need to put two to three applications on top just to make sure it wouldn't get on to my compression garments.
In the summer when my skin is good, I only use this aloe.
If I need a little more protection, I use SMITH&NEPHEW- SECURA PROFESSIONAL CARE LOTION, 360ML, (which is MINERAL OIL, LANOLIN & FRAGRANCE FREE). This lotion is $3.12 for 360ml from this link http://canmeddirect.ca/smith-nephew-80236-each-sec...
When chafed, I use Eucerin Itch Relief Treatment.
I also wore a close fitting silk undergarment beneath my compression garment when my skin was irritated from swimming classes.
