I was diagnosed with DCIS last March. Surgery in April…chemo
from May – Sept….radiation from Oct – Dec.
Stage 2B,. with a very small grade 3 lump removed from my lymph
nodes.  I found a lump on my opposite
side while I was having treatment….was sure it was nothing but I had an
ultrasound just to be safe.  They weren’t
concerned about it…but scheduled a follow-up which I had Monday.  They found 3 nodules which look suspicious and
I have to have them all biopsied tomorrow.
I’m somehwhat concerned since I know that it “can” happen to me, and
although I did pretty good during all the treatment..I don’t want to have it
again .

But my head is spinning…..would it even be possible to get a
new lump while I was having chemo ? Or perhaps it was already on the other side
but even still…….wouldn’t the 6 bouts of chemo have killed it ?

I have no idea the answer to your question, but I am very sorry this is happening. I would guess the cancer was already present on the other side but am no expert. I can tell you however, that if you were Stage 2B and needed chemo, that DCIS was not your primary diagnosis as DCIS is always Stage 0 and due to it's non-invasive nature does not require chemo. It is very possible that you had some DCIS along with an additional invasive cancer such as IDC, but it is the invasive portion that determined your stage and treatment.

The reason I bring this up is that you may be more likely to hear from people with similar experiences if you post it in a different form (such as IDC, or Stage II etc.). Most of the people frequenting this forum do not have invasive cancer and are not experienced with how chemo works.

    Best of luck to you!

thanks for your reply.  yes, sorry the chemo was for a less than 1 mm invasive tumour that had spread to my lymph nodes.  It was estrogen induced and was fast growing so that's why I had the chemo.

you can contact the moderators and ask them to move this to the stageII thread. You should get more feedback there since DCIS patients have not had chemo and are stage 0. Best wishes
